Child adoption

What is with the dowry issue? I have heard that before from an Indian friend but didn't took it seriously as I thought no parent would abandon their babies especially if it's a girl... although yes some people who do not like to be put in shame for having a baby without a father or just don't want a baby do that not only in your or my country. Even they will not be a responsible mother, they must not think of getting themselves pregnant. I cannot blame those who have been raped - but at least put the baby for adoption and not just leave them on the roadside.

I fully and wholeheartedly agree with you.You are right that the women who are in liaison with others and then give birth to babies and leave them somewhere to die are no less than criminals and enemies of the society.A few years back a male baby was discovered lying and crying under bushes in my city as well.What happened to it,I don't know. My elder sister and brother in law had no child of their own,but when my sister asked him to adopt a baby,he flatly refused the proposal saying that there are so many boys and girls in the world and they all are their own children.Both of them expired five years back.Then a friend of mine who had no baby of his own adopted a child from the railway platform,but a couple of years after adopting him,they had a male baby of their own.Thereafter they stopped taking proper care of the adopted child and now he is a spoiled brat. I agree with you that couples should adopt babies,but they should also take proper care to bring it up properly whether it is a male baby or a female one.

I think you gave your son's classmate some good advice! When it is not possible to have a child of your own, then adoption can always be an option. I find it very sad that women can abort, just because the baby is a girl! i have two children and I love them both and each has their good points, regardless of whether they are male or female!

It is heartbreaking what still goes on in India in terms of girls and women. I am well aware of the issues surrounding aborting or abandoning girls as well as the continued problem of dowry-related murders. I do hope that your son's friend adopts several daughters and brings them up to be strong women. More people within India need to adopt these abandoned girls and raise them to be strong in the face of such discrimination. Of course, it is not merely a matter of how girls are raised; sons need to be raised to respect women. I plan to adopt eventually, and my preference is for daughters. I would consider adopting a son in addition to daughters (and certainly would if it were a matter of a sibling set), but I first want daughters.

I think it is wonderful that they will choose to adopt since they cannot give birth to a child. My father adopted me although I am the child of my mother. It is a very special thing to have someone choose to be your parent.

dear kal, i think it is a good thing to adopt when you feel that it is that "thing" that is lacking in the life of a married couple, especially if there is really no hope at being able to have one biologically. i guess that would make their life more meaningful and happy. ann

I'm actually not that familiar with your customs. I'm not even aware of what dowry means.. but anyway, my take on abortion - it's bad. To be honest I've done once or twice... I don't want to recall how that happened. I know it's just bad. I hurriedly went to the nearest parish church to confess when I did one and also did my penance for it... Girl or Boy it is still a human being. I myself prefer boys but of course if I'm given a girl I'll still keep it... It's still a human being and we should care for it and treat the same as well With care and love.

I don't think they have any choice here. If they really want a baby, they should consider adoption. I'm sure I want a kid when I get married because I want him/her to follow my footsteps, but not strictly speaking. I wanna teach them stuff and watch them grow and live by what I've thought them.

I do think that adopting a kid is the most generous gift that any one could give to an abandoned child. At least they are given the opportunity to still have a family despite not having their own. As for those mothers who just abandon their little girls, what are you thinking? They are God's gift to you. Some couples spend all their lives in trying to conceive a baby of their won and yet could not. You should be grateful that you are able to have your own child. I hope these mothers would realize that they are committing one great sin, not only to that child but as well to God.

Aunty I also wants adopt the child but my danger and sweet hubby is not ready. Because 9 years completed for my marriage everything is normal but God not giving me my pleasure. Uncle suggest me some points and I am doing such. No problem in adoption because God is also seeing us and they gives the blessings a son/baby who is without parents gets the parents. Yes how the parents can cruel and throw the child on dust bin, on road side. Why God gives them the child.

hi, most of couple now a days can not have their own child are those who rich and both have work,they can not have child because of stress,so the thing they will do is to adopt child as their child especially if the couple don't have enough money.

Hi, Child adoption is a good option for the couple who have no child. It is nice that your son's friend has decided to adopt a child. As you said no couple wants baby girl because parents of the girl have to give the dowry. So girls are the burden to the family. But killing a baby girl is a action against humanity and the mothers are so cruel to kill their own baby girl. I can't understand how can they do so? There must be strict punishment for this act. Aborting or throwing a baby girl in the garbage is very disgusting.

I think that everyone borned to be equal, some people just throw the baby girl because they want a boy, it is illegal, but it really exist in our world.

I think that just simply 'mean' what's wrong with a girl?? what the baby fault that they hated her so much even before she has chance to be born. That's insane... I am sorry I just dont get it.
