So I just finished up my associate's degree here in northern Michigan and I've been looking at this college in Florida that specializes in acupuncture and Chinese herbology that I really want to transfer to. This is going to be a really big move for me because I still live with my parents and haven't had a house on my own yet. My girlfriend also lives with me here with my parents and she wants to move with me too. Right now we are kind of struggling financially and we are really worried that we will ever be able to have the money to afford the move. We are looking to move to Gainesville, Florida because that's where the college is located. What I was wondering was if anyone here knows of good ways to find cheap houses for rent or to buy? We are on a pretty low-income right now and when we move to Florida chances are we are going to be jobless for a little bit while we are looking for employment once we've moved there. Also if you have any good places to look for employment in the Florida area or if you have any advice for me at all on this matter it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everybody and you all have a wonderful Christmas tomorrow! (:

I would definitely start looking online...for a job and a place. Things are tough everywhere but I think you will find a job. I see the college you are wanting to attend but I am not sure what type of work you are looking for. Construction jobs there are pretty plentiful and seasonal tourism work would be an option too. That could be anything from restaurants to hotels. People also retire there so there may be something in the way of elderly care you could do.

it will be hard way for you, i think better to find job first make it stable until you got better living, at least got stable than now, then your girlfriend can follow with you, let see if you have 2 person that you have paid, youself and your girlfriend, how about yourself first? can you making better one just for you only? lot's expenses that should be paid daily and monthly. counting detailed your next expenses and calculated your min income that you should got monthly at least to paid expenses and got little saving. Make checklist in you paper, it should and a must.

The unemployment rate is high in Florida. Of course, if you're coming from Michigan, the search there likely won't seem any worse in Florida for you. You would probably be better off to get into the program and go on ahead. Your girlfriend can follow you once you have settled in. Of course, settling in may be difficult since you are unemployed; some places won't rent to you. It may be a matter of living in a hotel or motel for the first few months that you're in the area while you get settled into the program and find employment.
