The morning after the night before!

Everything happens on the 24th night and preparations before that but the Christmas morning is the most boring of all. Every one gets up late and some sleep the whole day through. I am here spending time at myLot. I am through with Christmas. Nothing is happening here at my place this Christmas morning. Don't pretend and tell me it is the best morning of any year!

I often volunteer to work on Christmas so that those with children can be home with their families. It is not Christmas yet here, but I worked today, and will work tomorrow, so that my client will have a nice day. He has very little in the way of family. I have tended over the years to do less and less as far as "at home" Christmas, and to have fewer expectations. I received the inexpensive jewelry items that I got attached to, and my husband could not wait, but gave them to me early, on a day when he felt I needed cheering up. I think of him as having Christmas in his heart all the time, but I am often the Grinch. I will see what tomorrow morning brings. I will have to go to work in time to do a medication pass to my client on time, and I will fix him a couple of special meals tomorrow and give him a gift.

I have adult clients, but the person who would have had to work if I did not has two little children. I will visit my grandkids in a week or two and we will celebrate some more. In that way my Christmas will get extended. I am not do a lot of crowds but I like to have lots of celebrations with many family members.

Christmas for me is getting ready for the season which as you know entails a lot of planning. And when the morning arrives I truly feel that lull which most around me feel too. I normally throw a party for the orphans during the season but not on Christmas day and therefore this day here is somewhat boring. So you seem to give a different kind of meaning to Christmas which is a good thing. Christmas is a time to give.

HI Gardengerty, That is so sweet you help the children. It is long hours but very rewarding. Youseem to have a very sweet husband who loves you very much and that is very priceless in this world. You are very blessed and you seem happy too. I am glad you have a job too that goes a long way to keep your mind sharp and your happiness. Merry Christmas. Sincerely Unique16

The morning after the night before is different and I welcome the difference - quiet everywhere, no music, and a total lull - after the storm comes the calm kind of thing but this is short lived here as the day unfolds, phone will not stop ringing and there will be a stream of visitors!

Having a toddler around not only changes things but Mondays become Sundays and so on - never an end to the toppling of what we call an organised living! Ask someone to pinch you and remind you that you are now a Grandmother Jen...!

Ok..I wont pretend..lol. Even though I am not a Christian/Catholic/Protestant, I like Christmas. That is because it reminds me of Christmas vacations, and who does not like them. I like Easter better though. In the hostel they would give us nice easter egg with chocolates in them, even the outer part of the egg was made of sugar, and we could eat it. And mother mary's day, Sept 8. They used to give us gifts on that day and we got to wear our best dresses on that day. What a pleasant change from the usual uniform.

Being in a Christian atmosphere it is not a surprise that you feel the way you do. Yes. We have several feasts that bring us joy. September 8 is my favourite too. We see children going around collecting flowers for worshiping Our Lady in churches for 9 days and making only vegetables is the hallmark of this feast. In churches fresh paddy is blessed and distributed as it is also called 'harvest feast' Christmas, like Divali is a universal occasion.

Christmas may be a different thing for adults. But as a parent, I always try to make Christmas extra special to my kids. And by doing so, I enjoy myself as well.

There was the much desired silence around me - no sound from any quarters but as the day unfolded that joy was short lived - phone calls, visits and somewhere I could hear some group having a ball - perhaps a party too!

First of all, let me greet you a Christmas Merry! You're right when you said that all the happenings was before the 24th because of all the preparations. But for our family (well particularly me), it does not stop at Christmas eve because during Christmas day some relatives and in-laws will come to viisit. So, as of now, after all of those preparations.... I'm feeling all the body aches and all I wanted to do is relax and read posts here in myLot :)

I was particularly talking about the 25th morning. There is a lull here kristeta unlike the days that just went by and as the day unfolded, yes, there were phone calls galore and visits too - not the kind of peace I was hoping for!

Oh how sad, but I am glad that you are writing on mylot so that I have someone to respond to! We have a tradition in our family and open only one gift on Christmas Eve. Then the big present opening is early on Christmas morning. After the opening then we all make a huge breakfast meal while the kids play. We have sausage and bacon, eggs, biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls, and pancake and syrup. Everyone chooses what their favorite is and then we have a very late dinner at night. Tomorrow we are having ham, sweet potatoes, and corn. The dessert will be cake with chocolate icing. I can't be bored over my holiday because I have a two year old and four year old to entertain me!!

Nothing sad really as whatever activity that is related to Christmas starts right from the first week of December and ends on 24th night. A month being in that mood does call for a lull but it happens on Christmas morning! Here we do not have the custom of opening presents. And as far as food is concerned looking at the stuff around we normally get into the eating mode may be a day after!

Same here. Since I live alone I can get up whenever I want to but I got up too early today for some reason. Now I"m looking forward to going to my sons and having dinner there. They have already opened their gifts this morning. I got gifts from my daughter Sunday and last night from my son so I am done unwrapping gifts. So far his Christmas has turned out better than I thought it would but I'm happy it's over and can get on with normal life.

In this part of the country what we do not have is exchanging gifts although it may be found at some rare places. Most of December planning is done towards it culminating with a mass in the evening of 24th and thereafter to get togethers at some places. But the 25th morning is rather dull as most spend sleeping it off.

We celebrated last night with my mom's side of the family and then today we are celebrating with my dad. Heading back to the city which is an hour drive but it's nice to spend time with family, so yet another busy day for me. I hope you enjoy your day relaxing today. I would spend it on mylot but I will be to busy to get on here. Have a blessed day!

Compared to the hectic pace that the previous few days have, this morning is always for us like what we call 'after the storm comes the calm' kind of atmosphere!. I too was busy here and did a few other chores but not the kind of activity that one sees here on the 24th.
