Are you prepared at home for a Blizzard?

And I'm not talking about the kind you get at Dairy Queen either. My area in the southeastern part of Indiana is under a Blizzard warning from 9pm tonight until 6pm tomorrow evening. I know I won't be going anywhere if there is a blizzard. I don't like driving on the snow all that much. I have some things here at home that I think might have me fairly well-prepared for about a week if I can't get out. I do have some frozen dinners that I can eat for the first few days just in case the power would go off later. Then I have some canned soups that will last for another 4 or 5 days. I also have canned fruits and vegetables for about 4 or 5 days. I have a couple of 1-liter bottles of water in the fridge. Plus, I have a bag of trail mix if it comes down to having to eat that as a last resort. I will be putting a tarp over the top of my car so that it will be easier to clear the snow off of it when I take the tarp off. I have a bag of De-icing salts for the sidewalk and a bag of kitty litter for traction while walking on the sidewalk. If the power does go off, I have quite a few blankets I can use to cover up with along with a sheet of plastic to put over all that to keep my body heat in. I could try to build a tent with the plastic over a small table and a few chairs. Then under that tent I can sleep on a roll out cushion that I have and be under 8 blankets. For light, I have a battery-operated lantern and 4 tapered candlesticks. I guess I'm pretty well set up for about a week maybe. I just hope we don't get a whole heck of a lot of snow and that the power stays on. Anyone else here ready for a blizzard???

I live in California. We don't DO blizzards. Not down here in the flatlands anyway. Where I live now we migh see a very light dusting of snow, but that's about it...

Crazy. I hate cold. I hate winter. I should have stayed in Riverside, CA!

Call me crazy, but after I graduate, I'm wanting to relocate to either Minnesnowta or Michigan. A friend of mine tells me to move to one of the coasts.

I'm ready for a blizzard. It's a way of life here, although we haven't had one in a few years. I only wish there was a wood burning stove or at least a fireplace here, but I'm dependent on fan forced furnace which of courses wouldn't work if the power goes out. I could do like you and make a tent in the hallway which is the center of the house. It would be dark but a lot warmer than anywhere else. The biggest problem with blizzards is that it tends to get really cold! I would just hope that everyone is safe at home if we do get one.

Blizzards are not exactly a way of life in these parts, peavey. We will get lots of snow maybe once every 5 years or so. I've not seen more than 10 inches of snow in a very long time here.

As I said, we haven't had one in a few years. I remember blizzards though, where it was downright scary to be caught away from the house. I like a good one, but only if everyone is safely at home.
