http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/p/quilt-alongs.html If you want to start quilting..this is a great site with tutorials....they call it a "quilt along" and each week make a different block...and then you put them all together to make the full quilt. I have looked at many of them, and they are really rather easy. Just follow her cutting and sewing insturctions...she has great pictures..and make them one at a time. It is amazing how a few different sized squares sewn together, make a large even sized block!

Thanks for sharing! I've added it to my favorites to check out. I have a couple other quilts...or 3 rather, that I want to get started on. I do hope to get in a lot more sewing this coming year than in the past. One thing I have to do is a challenge quilt for guild. She may have some good instructions to help me in making it. Marsha

I bet it is fun to make a different block.....I think I might check it out. I am going to JoAnn's today to look for material thanks to you! Talked to my sister on Christmas and she is getting the bug back too! LOL...you are a big influence!

I was so ticked! they had hardly any material in Christmas prints left! I don't think they probably stocked as much as usual because I used to be able to pick up a ton of material after Christmas!

Oh wow...sorry to hear that. I noticed last time I was in there..maybe a week before christmas...they had Valentines Day fabric out where all the christmas fabric USED to be. But I did see the Christmas fabric in the corner on sale. Check back next week..and they might have it on sale even more...won't be in the promonate racks, but on a table somewhere. Maybe just get some solid red, green, white and make HST's and put them togeher in a pattern. Check out Eleanor Burns..Around the World pattern (Quilt in a Day website) that one...amazing, and SO easy! The way you sew the solid colors together makes a diamond pattern out of the rows. It is easy for a beginner. but me.. I'm going to be using that pattern for my daughters...she loves pink and that diamond effect will be perfect

How cool! That is great. I hope you found some great prints! It isn't that hard to start...just get the basics down and work up! THe blocks, once you figure them out...are not that hard to make. I recommend the HST'''half square triangle...which is just a double colored square diagonally. YOu would literally be amazed at the endless options for design that you have with that one simple technique. GOing diagonally, it is a square with a different color on each side forming a square out of 2 triangles...ergo the name...half square triangle. So quick and easy to do and they you follow a pattern or just make up your own! I just did a zig zag patter of of HST's.

AMbiePan..honestly...it isn't that hard! Yes, it can get complicated the more intricate patterns/blocks you choose to use, but start easy...get a charm pak (40 5 " charms/squares...already cut) and all you do is sew them together in a size 7x5. Make a back the same size of one piece of fabric, a batting in the middle, (can be flannel if you want a soft, lighter weight quilt) and sew them together. Give it a try. I you need help, lep me know and I'll send you some sites. Missouri Star QUilt COmpany is a good place to start as she does quick and easy ones all the time and has tutorials.
