Do animals actually sense when something is wrong?
I was wondering this, I had woke up in the middle of the night, out of a dead sleep. Marco was chewing on his tunnel, and just scared me out of the sleep. Patches was sleeping at the end of the bed. She jumped up right away, and sat up for about 15 minutes later almost like protecting me, and came crawling up towards my side, and just laid staring at Marco.
Now I wonder if someone were to break in would they sense that, would they know to protect me. Even though they are cats, my brother has hit me and my cat has gone for his neck.

Animals can sense. That's why if we run after a cat it runs away because it knows that she might be harmed. I even heard from some one that when an earth quake comes, the animal comes to know before the humans do and they all stand against the wall. There are some really intelligent animals too who can sense every thing like humans for example a monkey.

Yes, I do believe they know. And good on yer cat for attacking yer no-good brother. I hope he didn't hit the cat after.

Yes they do sense things. They sense when things are bothering you and when things aren't right around the home. They can also sense changes in the weather. However, they don't experience emotions like we do. With them it is purely instinct. I don't know, since they are cats, that they would be able to protect you but they might be able to let you know if there was an intruder. I've never had a cat so I don't know for sure about that. If they were dogs they would be able to alert you better and possibly be able to protect you if they were large enough.

Hi Ricki. Yes I believe that animals know more then we humans think. One time when I lived in LA CA there was an earthquake and just before it happened my cats jumped up on my bed. I had a job I worked at nights and was asleep when this happened. I had a collie when I was married to my first husband and he hit me that dog jumped up and got him by the arm after he hit me. My dogs Tank and Sam let us know when there is something out of place. Just a day or two ago the top of our well house blew off and they went nuts till we went out there and fixed it. So I believe that animals know more then us humans.

They probably do and can in some cases, but not all animals have this ability. Once when my cousin was small a large german shepard dog she had once protected her from something as a child but now I can't remember what it was. Something about being in the road. I think some animals are just more protective than others. My mom swears my cat Cricket even protected the other half sister of hers outside one day when another cat tried to "steal" her food.
