New year...No Firecrackers!

Philippines

Many said that if you don't have firecrackers on New Year's eve at your house, it willnot be complete. However, upon hearing the news this morning, I was quite happy to know that there are still few buying in one of the known place for market of fireworks. With this, I think Filipinos are starting to learn the possible dangers. I have been in our house for more than four years and we haven't used any fireworks during New Year's eve. We just use some things that will create noise to drive away the bad spirits. How about you mylotters, in spite of the campaign by the government against fireworks and firecrackers, do you still have the guts to buy for New Year? Happy New Year to all!

Where I live, just this past year, made fireworks legal. It is crazy now, that is all I can hear most nights. I do not set of fireworks though. I like to see them on certain holidays but not really New Years. Fireworks are very dangerous and I don't like that just any one can set them off now. It is scary to think of one being done incorrectly and hitting a person, animal or home. I did not know that all the noise on New Years was to drive away bad spirits though. Thank you for your post, I have learned something new!

Yes, that is the reason for making noise during New Year's eve, to drive away the bad spirits. I know that friewroks are really dangerous. There are even fireworks that can only sold to licnsed phyro technician. However, here in our country, it seems that the awareness in selling such items are not properly informed to vendors. They even sold this to ordinary people.

That is scary. I hope that changes in your country. I love to watch firework displays that are put on by professionals but I need to be at a good distance. When I was a child there was a problem with fireworks and the whole barge blew up. The people on the barge were very seriously hurt and from then till now, I fear them a bit. People can be reckless with anything really but fireworks just seem so foolish to mess with.

I also love watching fireworks display in some of the themed parks. You are right that these are done by licensed phyrothecnicians. I hope that this year, the implementation and regulation will be more successful compared to the previous years and hopefully reduce injuuries.

but the ideally way to cherish and blossom in the new year would be to have some great fireworks and pyrotechniques happening in the sky and it would be simply awesome by the way

Yes, but it should be handled by the licensed one especially those very extravagant fireworks. On the other hand, it is really awesome to watch fireworks display.

I dont buy any, it takes out all the fun in new years, here we wait for the city fireworks at midnight, it is the best moment. Although last year the city didnt buy fireworks, the bars next to the beaches bought them to continue on the tradition.

Same here, we did not bought any fireworks for the New Year's eve. We just watched our neighbors aerial display and create our own noise.

ah the same thing in my place, there's some tradition and bad habit that for celebrate like new year always there are firecraker and getting worse because who played it were kids and they just throw it on the street, public street that there's possibility car / bike through this street, and what will happen we can guess. There are lots of accident because of this things but we can not controoled it even the government have already make statement about this even dont ever sell it again, but the maker still make and sell it.
