Should I buy a camera online?

I am looking at buying a DSLR camera from Amazon.com, but I was wondering if this is a good idea or if anybody can speak from prior experience. I trust Amazon and all, but I was just wondering if there would be any shipping issues (after all, a camera is a delicate device, and I was wondering if it would make it through the mail safely...).
Please let me know, thanks!!

My DSLR came from Amazon. It was packed well and arrived in perfect condition. Make sure you take a look at Adorama.com to compare prices before you buy. They've had some great sales going on recently.

Cool, thanks for the advice!
It's actually the same price on both sites, but it would be cool to get rewards points from buying it off of Adorama... However, at the same time I have a good amount of Amazon Gift Cards saved up that would help reduce the overall cost of the camera for me on Amazon.com... Adorama looks like a really cool site though!
Thanks again!

Hi,
Definitely you can. You'll find almost everything there. I don't buy online though, the risk is too big especially when it involves large amount of money. You see see, unlike you, I live far from civilization and it takes forever or goods to arrive here if it arrive at all. The product may go through many gates before getting into these islands so I can't risk it.
Even if it may cost a little bit here, it is more convenient for me to go down town to my favorite mall and bring home the thing I want right after paying for it at the counter, no questions asked, no waiting time, no haggling at the customs office, no misdirected or stolen items.

Yeah, I know -- Amazon sells so many different things it's crazy! For example, I'd like to see how an 80" flat screen TV (for $4200) can make it through the mail safely! I trust that everything is indeed packed well and that after all, any product (in-store or online) will have to go through a certain amount of transit before arriving at its final location.
I live where mail can reach me easily, it's just I hope that the package doesn't get dropped or damaged along the way (but I guess that's where the packing comes in)!

i would not buy a gadget online. i think these are the kinds of product you buy in store and have everything checked out and have every detail of the camera checked as well. it sure is really something that must be purchased with care and not online.

I suggest you to better buy directly from shop rather than buying such costly thing in online.

I have bought many things from Amazon. The things there are cheaper than the supermaket. And their packling is very good. You can buy anything you like , don't need to worry about the safety. I have bought a printer, a camere and two cellphones there.

Cool, thanks for the response!
Yeah, I think that everything would work out well... After all you got a printer through the mail and everything worked out just fine!
I've bought many different things through Amazon (and vendors on the site) as well and it has all arrived in good shape and with no problems!

I haven't tried buying something from online , am just not comfortable to see things in virtual only , i want to touch and see those things personally before buying it. Many have tried , i might as well do it but not fragile things like camera but maybe some clothes or chocolates.
