Do you earn by starting a discussion?

I noticed that when I start a discussion, it does not increase the number of posts that I make. For example, if I have 651, then if I start a discussion, it still is at 651. So, I am wondering if Mylotters get paid for starting discussions? I am somewhat new to Mylot and still learning.

That number is NOT a post count and is NOT related to earnings. When you start a new topic for discussion it will increase after your topic receives 2 responsees or 1 response + 1 comment. You do NOT earn for the responses that your topic receives. The users who post them will earn for them because YOU only earn for what youtype (as explained above). You will eanr when you comment back to the reponses and further the topic even though by doing that your number will still not increase. We are not paid per post here but for our overall quality participation in each 24 hour period.

Not good with algorithms anyways so if the Mylot algorithm was explained to me, I will probably not understand it. :) I did want to contribute to Mylot and start some discussions but wasn't sure how we earned on Mylot. Thanks.

Your User Rating has nothing to do with your earnings. It increases by one when: 1) You start a discussion AND that discussion gets at least two responses or one response and a comment. 2) You respond to a discussion for the first time. 3) You post a comment to someone else's response in a discussion which is not your own (only for the first time that you do this). It is therefore NOT a 'post count' but more accurately a count of the number of discussions you have been involved in (though, under certain circumstances, it is possible for it to increase by TWO in a single discussion if you post a response AND comment on someone else's response). Since earnings are calculated according to the quality of your TOTAL participation over 24 hours, there is NO real relationship between your User Rating and your earnings (except that the more active you are, the more you will earn in general, of course). To understand better about the User Rating, MyLot Reputation and earnings, read the relevant sections in the FAQs on: User Rating & myLot Reputation: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq11.aspx Discussion Rating System: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq17.aspx Earnings & Payment Information: http://www.mylot.com/o/faq/faq6.aspx

I think we do when we comment back to those who respond to our discussions. It is not enough to just start discussions. You need to react and comment back and forth in order to earn something.

Thanks, I wasn't sure but since so many start discussions, it only makes sense that Mylot pays members for starting discussions. I enjoy commenting on other members discussions as there are so many interesting discussion but sometimes, I do want to start a discussion. Thanks again.

In many cases I also knew some members misunderstood about starting discussion. They thought when they opening discussion, they also earn from all activities in that discussion (even they not respond back on their own discussion). That wrong, Mylot won't pay like that. Payment based on activities mean we only earn we active on discussion whether our discussion or other members discussions. Follow this rule: I type - I earn, they type - they earn Mylot always pays us based on that rule (except discussion / post got deleted due guidelines violation)

No that number does not indicate your started discussions. It's your overall performance. And you don't earn by intiating discussions,if you respond back or comment back to your discussions, then only you get paid.Just be active and you will see yourself earning well.

Yes, we would get paid less because we had typed less. It is that simple

There is some confusion in your response. We earn for ALL of our own activity, including starting new topics for discussion, if they are within the Guidelines. Even if we just start a topic and don't comment back, that is still part of our activity. We will of course earn less if we don't comment back because the topic will not become a discussion (unless others make it so but then they earn not us). The user activity rating increases when we: - start a new topic after it receives 2 responses or 1 response + 1 comment. - respond on a discussion started by others. - comment (the first time) on a discussion started by others. It decreases when we lose posts due to deletions.

Oh,i see. I mean to say,but i know that.If we start any discussions and not add comments, then we can earn for our initiated discussions. And if we don't comment back to our discussions, then we get less pay. I mean you are right in saying that we earn for every activities performed by us here.Whether it is starting of discussions or commenting back to responding to discussions or a like. In other words we can say that we earn for what we type(quality). But if we start a discussion, then don't comment back to all,we get paid less.

Yes, you do get paid from starting a New discussion, as any time you post here, we are earning from it. Just because your number does not change until someone responds back to it, does not mean you are not earning. That is really the nice thing. Because even when you take time to come in and respond back to everyone responding back to all of your discussions here you are earning from this as well.

The user rating, which s the number displayed next to your username, simply shows how many discussion you have responded to. This does not necessarily reflect tha amount of activity that you have input because it does not take into account how much you have typed. For example, if you post a two line response to a discussion then the rating will increase by one, whereas if you post a two paragraph response then also reply to the comment posted by the discussion starter the rating will still only increase by one. Obviously the longer response and added comment constitutes a greater activity, which is a factor Mylot takes into account when assessing the earnings.

It is true that when you start a discussion, it does not increase the number of posts you have made. Only if you respond to a discussion, the number of posts increase. Yes you get paid for starting discussions. If anyone responds to your discussion, you get paid by writing comments to their responses or rating them. When i was too new to my lot i never new that we could earn from comments but someone told me that there was earnings in the comments and the ratings. After that i write comments to the people who respond to my discussions and post smileys too to make my post look attractive.

Yes, you get paid for most of the comments that you add here in myLot. The number that you see next to your user name, it shows the number of distinct discussions you have participated in. It doesn't give you a count of how many comments you have posted, let it be in a discussions initiated by you or someone else, if you reply more than once in any discussion, it'll not increase the count of distinct number of discussions that you've participated in. Don't worry, you get paid for number of comments and not for number of discussions.

Yes,if you start a discussion, the number of your posts in Mylot does not increase, but certainly you get paid for it.This is what I think. You should visit the guidelines. If your discussion draws some or a good number of responses, you will get paid for adding comments to them. That way your earnings from the same discussion will get multiplied. In brief, you get paid in Mylot for everything that you type here.So logically you must be paid for any discussion that you have initiated whether it draws any response or not.

That number is not 'the number of your posts'. It is not a post count and does not increase for every activity that we complete.

I also observed it. Anytime I started a new discussion, it doesn't added to my number of posts. Even replying your own discussion will also not add the number of your posts. One day, I did an experiment to prove if myLot really pay for stating a discussion and posted just a single new discussion. The next day, I've earned $0,01. Mylot really pay for doing that.

You earn for all of your participation on the site. You do not earn for putting pictures on your own profile, but other than that you earn for pictures posted, discussions started, responses to discussions and comments in discussions. Whether you see your number go up or not. At the time you start a discussion that number will not increase until someone responds to you. To continue earning on that discussion, come back and comment on all the responses you get and interact within the discussion. Have fun and the earnings will come.

Good day ZoeJoy, As far as I know earnings from this site are generated whenever you participate in any of its given task such as starting new topic for discussion, posting your comments/answers to the given topics and doing a response to any given tasks. So, generating an earning here is not difficult at all.

Maybe myLot doesn't 'count' your discussion right away (doesn't 'change the number of your discussions' until they run the verification-program to make sure you're not one of The Machines ). Anyway, some people say it doesn't count as a DIscussion until you have someone make a response.

Please go thru the guidelines and all things will be well clear to you. Unless and until your discussion is not responded it will not be counted. So your discussion should be descriptive, informative so that it can be responded soon.
