Instead of their own names.. don't they want to be known by their name? Singers like owl City, The Ready Set, Dashboard Confessional,Never Shout Never, Secondhand Serenade.. i really thought they were bands until i looked them up.. I wonder why they won't sue their names..

it's all because they believe such names will attract more attention from others. That is why they come with a strange yet unique names. Commercial name or stage name is important as with it they get into the industry. I don't think there are many artists out there use their real name anyway~(^^)

Yeah, it could be a technique to gain attention.. I agree, even actors use stage names.. But i guess, if they really want to last in the industry, they should make better songs, since most bands these days sound the same..

Absolutely right~ Not just to bands but single singers as well. It seems that most of them are bringing up the same concepts like one copying the other and I can't see the difference. I am saying this not just the international singers but the local as well.(^^)

Mostly its for publicly. I mean, as a band or a singer you have to sell yourself to the public and they have to stand out from the rest with the same skill or talent as yours. If you cannot come with a good, catchy and unique name, your manager will do it for you.

Oh, yeah, that could be one of the reasons.. since there are tons of solo singers and bands these days that it would be hard to introduce a new one if you cannot present something fresh or catchy.. a good name could definitely catch one's attention.

It can also be the other way around. A band named after an individual just like Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd, Major Lazer, But in fact, Lynyrd Skynyrd and more. It is their option. Perhaps it is a strategy.

i didn't even think of that, i forgot about bands named after individuals. Those names still sound like band names though. it could be a strategy, anything that the people would find more memorable..

It very common in my country. Name of band / singer related to marketing strategy. If their management / producer think their name not marketable enough, mostly they gonna change it.

Oh, yeah.. that is what they are for, to make better decisions for the artists, since they do know better.. It is good to have people who want to help you get more famous..

I dont know why, but I think using bandnames have more impact to the people than using their names. I love the songs of owl city, dashboard conffesional and secondhand serenade but I dont know what the singers names are. :D

Yeah, i know what you mean.. even though i am a huge fan of these singers, i still do not know what their real names are.. Well, i did look them up on Wikipedia, but then i do not even remember their real names.. it is a pity.. I didn't even bother remembering it. maybe that's the way they want it.

Hmm. It maybe because they think their own original name is not fitting of the genre of music they are going to make. Or even that they always wanted to have a band names instead of using their own real names

yeah, that could be some of the reasons.. Or maybe they also want a bit of privacy.. or not. Only they now the real reason to that preference.. Anyway, what matters more is the music they make and not their names, although it does help to remember them by..
