I am part of a few groups on Facebook where they sell items, just things around the house and so on.
Now this lady had a toaster oven, she had it for $30.00, it's still unopened. I was just abou to say will you take $20 for it. Most people unopened items get them as gifts, then resell them.
This other girl goes, just go to any store that sells it, and say you lost the receipt and they will give you a gift card. I thought wow this girl is just ridiculous, this is why so many people have a hard time returning items.
I've returned items, with a receipt and got drilled. In the end it comes back to those who misuse it,they get it as a gift, then return it saying lies, and get money back in the end the store loses money.

i think that this time of year, most stores expect returns. in fact, i have two returns to take back. i got a hoodie from my nephew and its a little bit tight so i would like to take it back and i also got a shirt from my mom which i don't like all that much so i will be taking it back too.
however, i would never lie about stuff like that because i don't think it is right to do that but i bet it happens probably more than we think.

The girl sounds like an all-around scammer. At least you now know to never have any dealings with her, because she is obviously crooked.
On a different note, if the woman isn't willing to take $20, I would turn to Amazon or another retailer for it. You can pick up a toaster oven on Amazon for $20ish USD, and you likely have some Amazon gift cards about or are close to getting some on one of your sites.

Many times stores will include a "gift receipt" if you ask for them, that does not have the price, only the barcode. I would probably not return a gift because I just would not, but I do not see that the store loses money, if they resell it when it is returned. I do understand that they get strict, especially at this time of year with returns because the real dishonest people shoplift stuff and then return it to another store. Our Wal Mart talked about the small but expensive items that they could do that with.

I got things for Christmas like shirts and a pair of shoes from walmart that were the wrong size. I took them to walmart and told them that I recevied them for Christmas and they didnt fit. So they gave me 30 some dollars on a gift card. If I had worn them or anything then I wouldnt have returned them but as long as there is nothing wrong with the clothes then they just put them back out on the shelves for sale.

It is horrible what people will say and do to get money or get their money back. It's hard to even return groceries because of the way some people can be. We have to put all returns as "losses" because it has been out of the store and while we assume no one has done anything to it we just can't be sure.
I think that if more people were honest, perhaps more stores would be willing to make a deal.
If I was wanting to do something with a gift I got and I knew the store I might call them up and explain. "hey I got this as a gift but I won't use it. I don't have a receipt is there anything you can do for me?" If not then well I'll try to sell it or give it to someone else who will use it. I didn't pay for it, so it's not my money to get back.

It's true the few bad people ruin things for the good people! It happens with many things in life and its unfair to say the least... If more people would be honest it would make life easier on the rest of us!

That's sad. These kind of people should wear head plates saying "I'm a liar!"
