Why has the queen not yet learnt to wave?

Most young children can wave properly, let's face it, it does not require any great degree of manual dexterity. Now we all know the royals aren't the sharpest tools in the box but why can she not even manage what would be a comparatively easy task for a blind retarded gorilla? all the best, urban

I think properliness in waving is like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. I never saw anything wrong with the royal wave. It's worth pointing out that when children wave, they're generally waving goodbye, or "I noticed you, but goodbye". The Queen's wave is sort of halfway between a wave and a salute, and I think, in the circumstances, that that is appropriate. Don't write off the royals. They may not be the sharpest tools in the box, but they are sharper than you think. How many people do you know that have competed in the Olympics, having gained medals in other international events? Their degrees are earned degrees. And is search and rescue flying something that just anyone can do? Their musical tastes aren't completely useless, either. They may not be amongst the top composers of their generation, as Henry VIII was. They may not be the nearest thing of the age to groundbreaking scientists as one of Timur's successors was (and lost power as a result). Most may lack the godliness of Edward VI and Gustavus Adolphus. But don't write them off.

Competed in equestrian events! I am sure there are a lot better riders who would excel if they had the funds available to the royals. Horses and everything connected with them is ferociously expensive. Success in equestrian events is as much a measure of wealth as ability Yes, some have degrees after an elite education, perhaps William is the first who deserved a place at university and Charles, the only royal who has shown any evidence of thought, gained a 2.2 his MA is unearned Interestingly, I know someone that served with the royals and you might not be so impressed if you heard events from the horses mouth Does anyone else you know wave like the queen? all the best, urban

The Royal Wave has been the subject of at least one spoof http://www.youtube.com/watch?hl=en-GB&v=n5pkDB7zEeo&gl=GB. The people doing it have gone to a lot of trouble, including an ancient looking illustration of Edmund I waving to the people with his left arm. However, please consider this. When we wave, normally we are waving in a particular direction to a particular individual or group of people. Once you use this wave to try to encompass everyone around in every direction, it does begin to look rather frantic and rather silly. I think the Royals' solution, which goes back at least to the late Queen Mother, to be quite good. As is the Windsor Knot, which I was taught by one of our soup kitchen clients. Congratulations on your first or 2.1! Me, I also only gained a 2.2 (in Natural Sciences - I wouldn't have got in in geography - I can't draw to save my life) and my MA is "unearned" (I think I did earn in retrospect the money for the University Dues I had paid in advance for the two or three years after receiving my BA. I have been told that they are beginning to put an end to this "time honoured" system and in future all Cambridge MAs will be earned). I'm most impressed that you have been able to hear events from the mouth of one of Princess Anne's equestrian mounts. How did you learn their language? As regards privilege, I didn't realise that Lester Piggott, for example, came from such a wealthy background.

Ah but that is the Royal wave that she does. It is totally different from a wave that us common mortals use.

Did she actually say she can't? Maybe she just doesn't. She chooses not to. Anyway, have you ever seen a hand-wave that DOESN'T look retarded? (either that, or disinterested)?
