Two days more and we are welcoming 2013. Firecrackers are already part of the celebrations but I am really against it. Especially the kids playing them with the permission of their parents. In connection to this, I heard in the news that one of the municipality here in our country is implementing that whenever a kids is injured due to firecrackers and found that their parents are negligent in the incident, parents will be put in jail for 6 months and pay 5000 pesos as penalty. In my opinion, this is alright since at first place, parents must monitor their kids these days to avoid any injury. What are your thoughts about this one mylotters? Have a safe and prosperous new year to all!

It should be that way, If parents cant control their own kids then they need to be held responsible. Especially if someone gets hurt, or property is damaged..I think its a great idea.

Hello maria It is a good idea but who will take care of the kids up to 6 months if the parents are jailed i think fine in the form of money may be better than put parents in jail.

Personally I would be more than happy if they take away all fireworks at these days. It is meant for new years eve. And yes, children should not be allowed to play with fireworks but I don't know if we can blame the parents always. Kids can buy it and THAT should not be allowed.

No, vendors should be proscecuted! Kids like to do what their parents told NOT to do. They like 'forbidden fruits'!! And you simply CAN'T always go where your kids go.

Nice decision really fireworks is danger for child some parents not pay attention on their child and not with the child when they doing the fireworks. I think some new amendment in needed in India about rape cases and strict punishment is need for rapist.

Definetly see where you're going on this and totally agree. I dislike those fireworks, they should be left to the professionals and just avoided by anyone like your neighbors cause something could happen such as an injury without thinking. There is someone hurt or even killed somewhere cause they haven't been trained to use them properly, or just think they don't get hurt, etc. The laws here should be stiffer with them, as well.

Hmmmm why not for the safety of the children. But I think, 6 months is just too long for them to suffer.

Yes this is preferably for safety of the kids. I agreew with you that six months of imprisonment is really too long. I think this should be lessen let say for a month. I hope that those penalized will already learn lessons from the incidents.

I remember one year, where fireworks were permitted in the neighborhood at Halloween, one boy would lean over the fireworks as it was being lit. His parents were going through a divorce so neither one was really supervising him properly. His parents should tell him to stand beside the firework when lighting it but do NOT lean over it. Anyways, several people, including my husband were trying to keep this boy who was 8 years to back away when it wasn't his turn to light a firework. But his parents weren't telling him to back away and so this boy was not listening to the neighbors. I told my husband that we are never going to light fireworks with this family again. This boy and his sister were friends with my children but I didn't want an accident to happen to this boy or my own children. My sons were trying to get as close to the fireworks as this boy. But at least my sons were listening to both me and my husband. It's sad but I can now understand why most communities forbid fireworks except by the professionals, because people are so careless - even with their own children.
