When is the age appropriate time a person should buy a car, considering I'm 17 at the moment.

I do not think that you should buy a car at your age , it will distract you from your goal ,first study hard achieve your goal and then you can party(buy your car, your very own ,withyour hard earned money)you,ll be proud of it then.

I would try to wait as long as possible. Owning a car is a big investment and it is very expensive to maintain. My son is 17 and we keep telling him to wait as long as he can. He can save money and buy it when absolutely necessary. In the meantime, he won't have to pay for gas, car insurance, maintenance, etc. I bought a car when I was 19 and I can honestly say it changed my life. I had to work full-time to pay for it, so I had quite a hard time being a full-time student and a full-time employee. If I had the chance to do it over again, I wouldn't have bought that car. I hope it all works out for you when you make the decision to buy.

the ideal is the wait until you have graduated from high school. that's what i want my son to do. however, if you are mature enough to handle a vehicle (not everyone at your age is) and can afford it...why not? what does your parents feel about it? i would like my son to wait until he is 18. he is now 16.
