OMG! I bet she will be sorry she did that!

My daughter is fixing to have her 43rd birthday. She decided she wanted to color her hair.....wait for it..........keep waiting......brace yourself PURPLE! Well, I think technically it ir bright lavender. The color went right through her gloves and her hands were all purple. I saw some if her hair by her ear wasn't even covered in that mess. I tried to fix that and my thumb and forefinger was purple. I scrubbed and it didn't come completely off.
She will get into the shower to rinse but her skin will be purple. There is purple on her ear and on her forehead. I hope she won't be sorry she did that. I think she is out if her mind to even think of doing that to her hair.
She has such pretty hair. I'm just shaking my head. If it looks terrible I will try not to say anything.
Have you it your grown daughter ever tried to go punk with their hair? Is that the word for it now? In the 80s it was punk.

Well, my daughter was younger, about 20 when she dyed her hair bright pink and she kept it that color for at least two years before changing it. The great thing about it though, if she happens to be shopping at walmart the same time I am, I can spot her from across the store. (she's only just over 5 feet tall, so spotting her is very hard)
Now your daughter being older, she might regret it, she might not. You will know over time..

Pink hair. Now that's bold! My daughter looked really good on her but she got tired of it. She colored it black to get rid of the purple. It really looks good on her because her hair is brown black to begin with.

Oh, wow a bright purple. Wow, she may later like you said regret what she did with her hair. I hope she can get the color off her skin. It is really hard to get the color off. I once tried to dye my hair blonde and it actually turned out orange so I walked around with orange hair for a couple of weeks. I was so embarrassed. But I didn't do it on purpose.

She got most of the color off her skin. But her hair is still purple. Her hair turned out beautiful. It's more auburn. It doesn't look purple at all.

She wanted a change, and she is an adult.
I'm not much for dying hair, since a lot of dyes contain dangerous chemicals. However, those chemicals only really pose a significant health hazard when one routinely dyes one's hair.
Actually, if I can find some eco-friendly hair dye, maybe I will go purple... Hmm... That would definitely be a change. Although, in my case, I would have a professional do it.

I'm glad that it turned out well for her.
For me, I don't think that dyeing my own hair would work very well. Doing anything with my hair has never been one of my great talents.

LOOOOOOOL PQ!
My lady's just done her hair but she chose a normal colour. She's had it some weird colours before but never lavender... that must be SO difficult to carry off. The worst I've ever done was bright red for Hallowe'en (when I was in my early 20s).
Of course, these days I have no hair so, y'know... I'm just jealous.

yeah, I thought I would laugh too, but it turned out okay. It didn't really take on get dark hair. I think she would have had to bleach her hair first cause it just looks dark auburn highlights. I'm glad she doesn't look punk, BUT age has a purple ear and purple back of the neck where the color hit her skin. It will have to wear off.

When my daughter was a teenager, she wanted to dye her hair pink. But because her hair is a dark brunette color, that would mean she would have to bleach it and then dye it pink. Thank goodness, she realized that was just too much.
At 43 years old, I guess your daughter had to learn the hard way about dying her hair purple.
Well, if my daughter was 43 years old (she is 23 years old) and dyed her hair purple - you betcha, I would say something to her!!!!
Why not tell her that she is out of her mind, and that she has pretty natural hair. I am not afraid of telling my daughter what is on my mind and she is not afraid of telling me what is on her mind. It makes for an interesting mother/daughter relationship - but we are honest with each other. And we both appreciate that we are honest with each other!

I have to keep a boundary with my daughter, because her husband will crawl all over me if he thinks I'm talking down to her. He said she is his wife and that supersedes me being her mother and having an opinion. She would also say in criticizing. I pick my battles wisely here to keep from rocking the boat.
As it turns out, only her skin turned purple. Her hair looks a pretty auburn color. I'm glad it didn't turn neon.

Well, I am sure there are times when everyone at one time has tried to do something different with their hair. I have known people of all ages to try changing it. I have even tried, but not for many many yrs. I know there are now the easy color your hair easy kits, but something this dramatic might need to be done by a Beautician. Hope she liked the color after it was done.

I seen where it turned out well, I am glad. I have seen wild hair but don't know anyone personally, that has punked their hair.

I have long thick wavy hair which I straighten sometimes. I'm tall too. I had my hair dyed purple with some fine blonde streaks for my 60th birthday recently. I have had many compliments. Mine is a deep dark purple though. (I also got a tattoo).

My hair is dark but in the sunlight, the red highlights show up vividly. (Mum was a redhead). Now though, my hair is all dark and in the sunlight, you can see the deep dark lovely purple hue. The hairdresser did a great job. That was almost 3 months ago now and my own hair is growing out with more grey than ever. We just can't win!

Hi MsTickle. I bet yours does look good! My daughter's doesn't look punk either. I thought it would. It really only looks plum colored in the light. If she isn't in sunlight or in direct light in the house, you can't see it. It's more like plum tones to her hair. Her hair is dark so it doesn't look really dark purple.

Her hair didn't turn purple. It turned auburn, but in the right light you can see plum highlights. It's very pretty.

This reminds me of my grandmother's colouring nightmare.
She was in the bathroom for the longest time and when she finally emerged, I, at my tactless ten yearold best, said with astonishment,
"grandma, your hair is blue!'
It wasn't deliberate, seems she got the wrong dye lot. same package, different manufacturing facility!

My oldest daughter is only 18 so coloring her hair different colors is still cool. I am 40 and I would change it to something near my real hair color if I used hair color at all. When I was younger I would have loved to have my hair dyed different colors to look like feathers in my hair.

Hers was really pretty. It looked black with plum highlights. It wasn't punk looking at all. She tired of it though and covered it with black. This looks natural on her because her hair is naturally brownish black.

OMG!! You can do nothing about it. She is 43 and she lives with the consequence of her choice. Do wish her a happy birthday.
My older son is 12 and he wants to grow his hair. I let him do it though it annoys me no end since I end up caring for it. He has thick straight hair too...and lots of people mistake him for a girl. Having read your post, I feel this is a lesser harm and we can chop it off whenever he is ready.

It was really pretty on her. She never bleached her hair, so it looked black with plum highlights. I put a picture somewhere on this discussion I think.

Well, I start my comment by saying that in my country (Italy), in the 80's, used the punk fashion and you could see many people with hair, a bit of all colors. This was, however, for young people.
Entering regarding your question, first start by saying that, regardless of her age, every person has their own personal tastes and they should be respected!
But what can I say about a 43 year old woman who dyes her hair purple to the punk!
Well, one thing is important: That she shall not be sorry already!

She looked really good with it. It looked black with purple highlights. In certain lights it looked plum. I called her Ms Plum. She tired of it though and put it back to black.

I guess that ,if Kelly Osborne can do it ,why not! I am sure that she did not expect that her skin will get dyed too.I am thankful that my daughters never did something like that, but there is still time, they are in their thirties now. I hope that she got the colour out from her skin.
As to the hair, she can colour it again in about two weeks. And if she likes....It would be easier to use those coloured chalks they have now for the hair!
