I was having a bad day yesterday as I have a high fever and diarrhea. I took some medicine and I am still not feeling well. Around 10pm, my boy friend brought me to a near by hospital as my condition is not getting better.
I was diagnosed with Acute Gastroenteritis which is a medical condition characterized by inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract that involves both the stomach and the small intestine, resulting in some combination of diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain and cramping.
Gastroenteritis has also been referred to as gastro, stomach bug, and stomach virus. Although unrelated to influenza, it has also been called stomach flu and gastric flu. The doctor gave me some antibiotics and I drink some Gatorade to replenish liquid loss. He even advised me if I will not be better for the next 24 hours, I need to be confined in the hospital.
I have a work today and its holiday here in the Philippines but I was not able to go to work. I really want to go to work since its double pay but I might encounter another diarrhea attack in the office. I feel that I do not have enough strength to move at all as all of the food I eaten were removed from my body due to the diarrhea.
Have you been to a situation where you want to work but you can't since you are sick? Please share. Any tips about Gastroenteritis

Hi friend. Thank you for the advise. That is also my boy friend and my mother's advise to me. I think I should prioritize my health for now so I will be able to go to work. Hopefully, the medicine will work now and I can regain back my strength so I can go to work tomorrow.

Rest and recooperation comes first!
If you are up to it, you could work online to earn a little extra money will resting at home.
I feel sick too. I tried going to the clinic hoping to get some antibiotics as I am fearing it may be another bout of pneumonia. They were not open like they were supposed to be today. Now, I am waiting till Monday to find a different clinic that will be open. I am not up to doing much other than sitting on the couch and taking it easy. So, I figure minus well participate here on myLot. I am striving for that last dollar to make my minimum. It is keeping my mind off of the pain at least.
I would suggest trying some Jello or broth from soup.
Hope you feel better soon!

One more thing I forgot to mention. When you are sick it is really hard to be objective. Listen to the others around you. They tend to be a better judge of whether you are up to going back to work than you. It is like when we are sick we get in denial about our symptoms. We try to convince ourselves that we feel better than we actual do especially when we want to go to work.

Last January, I had minor surgery. It was scheduled for a Friday; although, I should have been up to going back to work on Monday I had planned to take an extra day off just in case. Satureday, I felt good. Saturday night I started not feeling good and I felt worse Sunday morning. Went to the ER. They thought it was just a UTI infection, gave me antibiotics and pain medication. I was supposed to go back to work on Tuesday, but I truthfully was not up to going back so I took one more day off. It was the maximum that I could take off 3 days in a row. Come Wednesday, I knew I had to go to work. I woke up Wednesday morning with a low grade fever, but still I had to go to work. I was just happy that it was Wednesday so half of the day would be meetings, so I just had to make it through teaching the morning classes. I summed all my energy, and I barely made it through the morning. I went home soon after the last meeting. I knew I needed to get some work done for the next day, but I did not feel good at all. I went to bed hoping some extra rest would help. I woke up at 2:30 in the morning with chest pains and it was hard to breathe. Went to the hospital. They said I had pneumonia. I was in the hospital for about 3 days. It took me about 6-7 weeks until I had recovered to the point that I felt well enough to return to work.
Regardless of how much you really want to go to work, you have to realize that your own health comes first. If you truly are not up to working stay home. The lesson that I learned is that employers assume that you are at work that you feel well enough to perform your job. So, truly if you are not feeling well enough to perform your job at 100% it is best to take the time off to get better at home. In addition, going back to work to soon will only result in you sabotaging your own recovery.

If you are that weak and tired you really do need to stay home. Plus too you will find that if you go to work that you will probably not be able to take the pain medication since most pain medication will make you tired. Rest get plenty of fluids, and regain your strength. When you trully feel better you can start begining to think about returning to work, but right now all you can do is think about recovering from your illness.

Thank you for your advise. I will surely follow these. I drink a lot of water to replenish liquids and I think I consumed 1.5 Liter of Gatorade already. I no longer have a fever but my body is still weak.

I definitely agree with you. That is what my mother and my boy friend keeps telling me. Yes today is double pay but my health is more important than that. Also, I will not be able to perform well if I went to the office as I feel so week. I slept the whole day and I think my strength is gradually recovering.

These ailments are no fun but usually don't last long. Thank goodness. Double pay will be sad to miss out on. Maybe next time they have it you will be well. Or can make it up some other way. Hope you are well soon.

Thank you so much, I am hoping for a speedy recovery as well. It is really sad to miss out on a double pay but I think the double pay last Christmas will compensate for my absent. In the end, health is more important than money. Have a nice day!

Oh, this is not good. If you have a fever accompanied by all this other stuff, you should stay home until your fever breaks. You don't know if you ate something bad or you have the 24 hour bug, but to be safe and not spread germs better to stay home, rest up than to spread your sickness around to your co-workers.

I have been to the doctor already and I was given medications. I am still under observation if my condition will worsen, I will need to go back to the hospital. I am sorry for the confusion, the advise that I am asking is for my recovery, tips in this kind of disease. The doctor was able to explain it to my last night but I was not able to comprehend everything as I felt so weak. Have a happy new year to you.

We all have some reasons for not going to work. But the best reason we cannot go is we feel sick . Well we cannot avoid going to office just for some minor fever. But if it is genuine and you are noy feeling wellthen you should not go. This has two advantages in my opinion. First you will feel freash and energetic and start your work enthusiastically. Second you don't have to consult the physician again. Plus you can be very confident about your work the next day.
So have a good day and take rest!

Thank you. I will make sure that I have a good rest to recover. Though I lose my fever already, I still have gassy stomach and diarrhea. I am sure these two is not a good combination in the office. Also, I felt weak because I am pooping all of the food I have eaten.

If you are sick, you should not be at work. I'm certain that none of your colleagues would be happy with picking up your sickness--an illness that is quite contagious.
My rule about sick people is that they should stay at home. That applies to children as well, of course. Stay home; don't spread your illness, and please do wash your hands frequently so as to try to avoid spreading your illness to anyone else in your household.

I am not sure if Gastroenteritis is contagious. But I think I rather stay at home now to fully recover. My mother seems to be having a diarrhea but not as severe as my case. I guess we have eaten the same food that trigger this.

These days I never get sick as I make sure that I always eat pretty well and keep active. I have a few tips for dealing with gastro. The first is to make sure that you drink loads of water, much more than you think you may need. Even if you do not feel thirsty, drink anyway. Also, drink coconut water for the electrolytes if you can rather than those nasty looking weirdly coloured sports drinks. You do not want to be ingesting nasty chemicals.
With regards to antibiotics. When you are better, make sure that you replace the good bacteria in your gut by taking some sort of probiotics. Antibiotics will kill the bad bacteria in your gut that has caused the gastro, but they will also kill the good bacteria that keep you healthy. I never take antibiotics as I never need to. This is because I always make sure that I eat fermented foods and drinks that have lots of probiotics in them. Keeping the gut full of good bacteria is one of the keys to good health as they will stop any bad bacteria taking hold in your body if there are enough of them and they are strong.

I was about to ask if you are working in call center but I remember your reply to me in my post I've created. I've actually experienced that already but not that much case as yours. The doctor just recommended me on what medicines should I take then he also told me not to eat the following foods that will affect my stomach such as spicy, sour, milk and other more.

When my son was 3 years old, he was hospitalized caused of Gastroenteritis. He was admitted for 3 days and he consumed about 4 bottles of dextrose. We really didn't know what was wrong with him at first coz he just started vomiting and had diarrhea. I thought I could control it with the medications given by my brother in law who happens to be a physician. But it went on for 2 days. His body became frail and he lot 10 pounds right away. And so we decided to send him to the hospital. Thank God that we were able to send him to the hospital just in time or else, he would be in a very bad condition ever.
It happened when I have just given birth to my youngest son. I was really so worried coz during that time, there was a Super Typhoon as well. I wasn't even back to work that time coz it was just about a few weeks after I gave birth. It was one time that I was really crying coz I though that my son would never recover.

Yesterday I was not able to eat a lot due to Gastroenteritis. Even the doctor is offering for me to be confined in the hospital if there will be no change in my condition. I took antibiotics and other medicine already. My fever is gone but my poop is still in liquid form and I feel so weak. I do not have appetite for food and it seems I will vomit everything I ate. Good thins my boy friend brought me to the hospital last night and I was able to take right medications.

Just relax and take it easy. It seems that you have done a lot of research about your illness. Now, it is time to do research on getting better and focusing on your health.
Focus on health and well being. Focus on inner strength and inner peace. Listen to some tranquil music. Eat healthy. Focus on getting better and being back to health.
Take care.
