My New Year's resolution in 1983 was to read a book a week for the full year. I was able to reach that goal. I have renewed the resolution each year since. I have now read 53 books in 2012. I have learned a lot and experienced many a great story over these 30 years!

Congrats! I didn't make my goal of 90 books... I only got to 72, which is even less than the number I read in 2011 and that was a wicked hard year for me. But come to think of it, I did start the year off pretty strong. Maybe I can do that again this year. I'm taking public transit to school instead of driving cause my sister's got a new job and we share our car so she's gonna have it all the time. Which isn't bad, cause that means more time for reading books! I hate driving anyway.
I'm setting my bar low in the beginning, just 80 books. If I can pick up speed then I'll push it even higher. I read 130 books in 2010, and I really hope I can get myself back up to that pace again.

That is an impressive pace of reading, aotr,. I wish I could ride public transport when I go to work--I know I would at least double my reading time! Happy reading in the new year.

I used to take public transit all the time at my other school, the whole year of 2010 actually... so that's probably why I made it to 130 books that year. This year I was out of school for half the year and then I went to a different school for the other half, and I drove there. Which was painful in gas money and cut out so much of my reading time. I'm really glad I found a good public transit route.

I also get through a lot of books when reading them in my long commute to and from work, both books that I really want to read and those I want to finish. I think it's a delicate balance between wanting to finish a book and taking time to appreciate it fully.

That is a really cool thing to do, and it is great that you are going to do it again in 2013.
If I set such a goal for myself, I would likely have to make the one book per month. While I was an avid reader as a child and as a young adult, too much is going on these days to allow me the luxury to simply read book-after-book as I used to do.

I know about busy schedules, Wilson. I have a full time job and am raising two teen grandsons. But I seldom sit down that I don not open a book. I am not a fast reader, but consistent. (And I do not require much sleep!)
