Hello everyone,
Many pc gamers might have noticed that more free to play games are being developed. There are obviously still a lot of huge developers such as Ubisoft which are developing normal 50 - 60 dollar games, but a lot of free to play games are published on the market. And although they do not cost anything, they do consist out of great quality. Also more and more of those larger developers are producing free to play games. So I wonder, is the free to play genre the future of game development? Share your thoughts and opinions; I would be more than happy to read those!

Free to play games are indeed popular. However they aren't completely free. To be a real member and enjoy playing you must use real money to buy things. Sometimes this is worse than buying a full game. After every item you must spend a lot of cash. If you a rich you can get a lot of things and ruin your own game but if you have no money to spend you can die in game easily.

Yes, indeed 'Free to play' games will be the future of game development. But as others said it won't be totally free. There might be adds if its totally free.
I recently ran across 'Planet Side 2'. Its an MMOFPS and is totally free to play. The only thing they ask money for is if you want to buy some really cool weapons that you have no chance of getting in free mode.
From what I have read, this game is amazing. I tried to play it, but its graphics requirement is quite high. So it won't be fun to play on an average pc with a frame rate less than 15. But the main point is it is free and is famous as well.

Seems to me ... I don't know. Not much of a gamer. Are you talking about games on the Internet or -games for video-game machines (ATARI, Commodore 64, SEGA & NES FOREVER! ) ... machines which nowadays have Internet 'components.'
Wasn't the Internet developed SO THAT gamers (in their mothers' basements) could share their games FOR FREE?

To my knowledge, free to play games especially those of massively multiplayer online role playing games are mushrooming now. They get a lot of attention from gamers all around the war as they are free. However, if you look into it, there are hidden agendas hiding in the game which requires gamers to spend real money.
Many so called free to play games have different currencies which one would be purely game currency which you can get in the game. While the other currency would be real money currency which you would have to purchase certain reload card or perhaps make donations to get it. With this real money currency only, you will be able to purchase certain items which cannot be bought by using the game currency. Such items would have extraordinary power and effects which clearly distinguish them from the free items.
Because of that, many gamers spend more money in this free to play games. So I believe free to play games would be the dominant games in the future if not already started now.

Free to play games are a good way to stop piracy but some tend to be expensive.

I doubt it. This world is too capitalistic to make good things for free... the world would be a better place if games like Far Cry 3 were free! :P

I believe that there will still be paid game along with free to play games. These free to play games do offer a paid option that you could buy their in game currency, for example league of legends with their riot points. I don't mind paying $60 for a game as long as it is worth the $60. Some games put little effort in changing some things on their next release.
