Cup of coffee - can be expensive

I have a keurig coffee maker and the coffee pods are quite expensive unless their on sale in which case their still expensive. My grocer store has been selling a pod for the machine called Jave Delights. It's always $4.99 which is a good price for them but I'm finding it very strong coffee. No matter how much cream and sugar I put in it it's still a lot stronger than I like my coffee. I don't know if I want to keep buying it just so I'll have coffee in the house or stop because I really don't enjoy it. What would you do? Would you keep buying it to save money or deal with the expensive coffee that I like better?

No matter how low the price tag is, it is not any sort of deal if the thing is something that you do not like. I am a firm believer in spending what needs to be spent in order to get the stuff that is good. Food and beverage should be enjoyable. It should be of good quality. I also factor in the true costs associated with what I buy--the environmental impact, the social impact.

I'm all for saving money where I can, but I don't think it makes any sense to keep buying something you don't like just to save money. Have you thought about buying a reusable filter for your Keurig machine? You can use any coffee with it. Amazon has them for about $13. http://www.amazon.com/Keurig-K-Cup-Reusable-Coffee-Filter/dp/B000DLB2FI/

No, I've never heard of reusable filters for my Keurig but will check it out. Thanks for the link

There is a small little filter that you can put ground coffee into sold at Target. It really will save you a lot of money.

I have a Keurig Coffee Maker and buy when the coffee is on sale and use a coupon to lower the cost. I just printed out $1.50 off 2 and it expires 1/14/13, so its long dated. This one is only good on the 12 count. If you use Facebook, then like the Keurig Page, as I get coupons there and even received a free sample.

i guess i would probably spring for the more expensive coffee just because i don't think a bargain is a bargain if you don't like it or are not going to use it.

The best coffees for me are very cheap. I simply put a mug of milk in the microwave oven and than add a 3in1 coffee dust thing. Very delicious and easy. Don't waste money because you have a nice coffee maker. Except if you can let yourself a such luxury.

I usually buy my coffee at the beginning of the month when I get my check and food stamps. This is my one luxury for the month. I'm not sure if I'll keep buying it or not.

Write you incomes and expenses and check at the end of the month if the coffee is too much or where you could save money. Of course everyone has an expensive hobby or passion .. or coffee in your case.

What's the point of drinking coffee if you don't like it? Is there any way to cut into the pods and remove part of the coffee to make it not quite so strong? If I were you, I'd experiment first to see if I could get it to work better, but if not, I'd buy the more expensive pods if you have to have pods. Isn't there a way to use a filter in the coffee maker? Loose coffee is nearly always cheaper than pods and you can adjust the amount to suit yourself.

If it was something I liked then I wouldn't hold out on the price, I'd buy it, I have bought cheaper versions in the past and they have never been the same, you are so right you get exactly what you pay for. Last year I made a mistake of buying a cheap mug it only cost me a £1 and a day later I knew why, the handle fell off, fortunately there was nothing inside the mug when I was about to use it, I dread to think if I had put hot water in it!

I have an inexpensive drip coffee maker that I got at Walmart for around $12, I think, and I use generic decaffeinated coffee for it. I don't like strong coffee either but I do like it to taste good. I used to treat myself to mochas and lattes and such from the corner store near my house but, at a couple of bucks a cup, that adds up fast and I know it's just wasteful. What I do now is I buy the International Delight flavored creamer (in either fat-free vanilla or fat-free hazelnut) and have that in my decaf. I really like it and it's SO much cheaper than buying prepared coffee drinks... not to mention it's a heck of a lot better for my waistline! The important thing is that you like your coffee or owning a Keurig is pointless. If you are not a heavy coffee drinker and only have one or two cups a day (not one or two POTS a day like I do ), you can certainly work the more expensive pods into your budget. As others have said, balance it against other purchases and compromise where you can. Try to find coupons or sales or check the prices at the "big box" stores. If it becomes unaffordable, maybe you can find a way to like the cheaper coffee like I do with the flavored creamer

I would find out of they have a different blend that is not as strong. Or just play around perhaps with diluting it and maybe get 2 cups of coffee instead of one and put the extra in a thermal container to keep it warm. And yes I agree even on sale Keurig machines as well as the coffee flavored cups are expensive. I think people justify buying them as being cheaper than getting their coffee fix from a coffee shop which is even more expensive.

If I want something that is more money than I am wanting to spend I will cut on another cost somewhere... Like my mayonaise has to be a certain brand, so since I feel that way I am not picky on my brand of ketchup so I will get the cheaper brand on that. It kind of balances out... If you want to go expensive on the coffee pods than go cheaper on something else. I know those coffee's for the keurig are VERY expensive! They are good though! Lol. That is what I would do though, if you want it to taste good then go more expensive on it and go cheaper somewhere else. Works for me! =)

That's how the world goes, the best are expensive. But why not if you can afford right? If you have the money to sustain your self with luxury then don't deprive yourself, afterall it's just money. But if you are budgeting, I suggest to stick with cheaper ones and buy the expensive for occassions, you know with something to celebrate with.
