Sick at work...how to manage?

Philippines

Happy Holidays everyone! I am wide awake now at work in my night shift duty but feels terrible because of this cold and cough that I have right now. Since I hate to be absent at work, I did go anyway. I am on break now making myself comfortable for just a little while. I am currently drinking a lot of liquids and I've taken a medication already. I really hope things will be fine the entire shift tonight. (crossing fingers) I don't want my job to be affected with this feelings I am feeling. Hope you all have a great holiday! Stay healthy everyone!

Hi Sunshine, I do think it is our responsibility to go to work but still we need to take care of ourselves. I believe the best thing to do is just to manage ourselves on whatever we can and don't let our sickness affect our work. I am still sick now and I think I did a good job with managing my work. Happy New year!!

Sometimes it is hard to come up with work most especially when you are not feeling well. My usual remedy on working while I am sick is I always drink lots of fluids to hydrate myself. Also, I keep my bag stack with vitamins and medicines to help ease the pain that is caused by the sickness I am dealing. If I am really not in the mood to go to work result from sickness, I do tell my Boss that I will be absent for the day and let it rest for a day or two.

Hi there! I really hope it is easy to be absent just like that but because we were understaffed, its just hard to do so. Anyways, I am fully OK now and I hope I will be in the next days! Hope all is well.

Glad that you are ok'ay. well it really depends also in your working environment. your superior can understand if you really can't do well in your work when you are really sick. just try convincing your boss. Thanks for your response.

Personally, I think we have all done this a time or two. Many of us have had too to help make ends meet. It is not Fun and hard to make it thru the entire shift. I was also sick with a Bad migraine headache the other night and almost did not make it to work and thru the entire shift myself. Hope you are feeling Better now.

Hi Krause, I am feeling better now...that I have completed my set of antibiotic. I've actually taken the strongest one and I think it really worked since I am more OK now compared yesterday and the other day. I still have a slight cough but more OK now. But I still have my stiff neck which is bothering me so much since I couldn't position myself well whenever I lay down in my bed or just sit down in the chair. As much as possible, I try to not move my neck since it's really very painful. Glad that the pain medication did help it subside. Have a great day!

Make sure to take your medicine and get plenty of rest. I was also sick and I am unable to go to work as much as I would love to. I had a diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain and I do not think I can work properly. God bless you and hope you get well soon.

Hi Chiwasaki, I hope you are feeling better now. It just bad to be sick most especially if you have to report to work. If I were your case, I also don't think I would able to go to work. I only have cough and colds...and I am taking an antibiotic already. The only think that I mostly need is rest. ANSI will do that as soon as I am off to work today. Have a happy new year!!!

I would just go home. If you are not performing at your best, you might just want to rest up. Being there might even get your co-workers sick too. And your condition might even get worse if you are working too hard instead of resting.

Hi there Otanetix, I just knew yesterday that most of my colleagues have cough and colds. I can just pin point in my fingers who aren't affected. And what I am sure about is that, I wasn't the one who started this virus...it was my other colleagues. But I do believe that my cough and colds are way more worst compared to the others who really did manage. Anyways, I am OK now compared the previous days.. Have a great day!

Shame man. You are taking medication and liquids and that is all you can do. Make sure you get in your bed as soon as you get home. Perhaps your body just need a very good rest. Take care.

I go to work sick alot too but it doesn't matter for me because I work in a hospital and I'm around sick patients all day. We are short staffed so it's hard for any of us to call in sick. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Blondie, I feel for you since I also work in a hospital. And like you, we are short staff so I couldn't just call in and be absent. I do have conscience with regards to my colleagues who needs to undergo overtime if someone will be absent. Anyways, I am still sick now but I think I can manage.... Happy new year!!

I am sorry you are sick. I would go home. Going home is better than getting everyone at work sick. I hope you feel better.

I am wearing a protective gear! LOL! I am wearing a face mask now just so I couldn't make someone infected. I am feeling better now anyway because of the hot water I just took. I am going home soon and can take a rest soon. I hope this sickness won't take a couple of days. I don't want to start my year that way...feeling terrible.

Do you work alone? If not, then you are putting your co-workers in danger of catching whatever you have by going to work sick. I don't like to miss work, either, but sometimes that's the best choice.

Nope. I have my colleagues with me. And right now, I am trying to get away from them and is wearing a face mask just not to get them infected. Good thing we aren't that many though and I think I could manage trying to be far. Happy mylotting!!!
