Now a day in India every one is shouting that girls are not safe in India, after the case of Nirbhaya. But, I think in India except Politicians and Gundas, i.e., criminals no one is safe. I don't understand why people in India are not coming on streets against the Public works department, National High Way Department, who construct roads, High Ways, bridges of low standard. No in international standard. In our country no one agitate for killing thousands of peoples in road mishap due to worst conditions of High ways. There are maximum highways in our country where you have to search in pit-pots.There are no safety measures on Highways. What do you want to say?

I've seen the headlines about Females fearing their safety. Its so sad to see this continue in modern times that Women are so poorly respected and still considered a burden.
It sounds like many things in India need to be revamped. I was reading rapes go unreported because of the shame it brings to the family and it takes up to 15yrs to prosecute?!?!?!?! I thought our system was slow here taking a year or two depending on evidence collection.
I've also read several posts from our Indian memebers about how things work in India and I find it interesting to read to compare how things are here.

Some one needs to get a national highway safety code passed, thats the easy part. the next i getting it enforced and policed so that the roads are built right and then maintained.
once the roads are built you neeed a force to ensure teh loadlimits fo r the road are followed, over loaded trucks will ruin the roaf fast.
you need a Highway Patrol to enforce the law. then may be, you can have good safe roads.
Girls are not safe any where with th lack of morals and respect peopld have today.
you have to band together and for a citizen coalition to petition the govt to do what you want.

I beg to differ about young girls.Men want to learn respect and self control.Typical you put all the responsiblity on to the girls again.Again someone has put the roads ahead of woman and girls safety.Men have been allowed to carry on like dogs. While girls and woman have to behave like saints.the world is changing and men will just have to catch up with the girls.I am sure I don't have to explain to you woman have the babies and provide the world with a future.Men cannot have Ivf without the female of the species all you men will have to be gay.Is that what is coming next when they have defiled all the woman. It seems to me just walking down the road or catching a bus to work is enough to get a man worked up to rape. From what I can gather it don't take much does it.We were on a train last year and a young girl was sitting there minding her own business and two young Indian men started on her, they soon found out about respect for woman in this country as the English men soon put them right. They were not hit we are not savages but it was made clear to them that did not happen in England. And yes there were mixed race men sticking up for her.

Indians turned to be very selfish and every one thinks how to make money for their own needs. No one has time to think about their co-beings. The selected representative of the people who are responsible to provide a good life to their citizens turned to busy on taking bribes.
We need a change on each and every department.
Happy New Year to you.

Hi Sreekala,
Let's not blame others, actually, we need to change ourselves. Society consists of people and by changing ourselves we can change the society.
At least women should protest against those movies where they are shown as piece of meat, all the horrible things that's happening to our society is mostly inspired by Bollywood movies. We enjoy such movies in cinema halls but if such things happen in reality we start protesting it. Media is playing the biggest role is spoiling the youth.

It does seem like a very lawless place and I feel very sorry for the good people of India who try to lead a good life. You need more police on the streets.Young men should be made to respect woman and girls after all they are the mothers of the future. From what I can gather not many baby girls are allowed to survive ,there is a shortage of woman.Once these men respect woman society will be civilised and everything else will follow. We fought for womans rights in Britain it took a while but we are there now ,but we still get the occasional man who has no respect for woman and beat and rape them.Although roads and high ways are important.I think these poor girls and woman are far more important and a change in the law is needed ,men stop being judges and let the woman decide what is best for themselves.

Hi,
We can say that citizens in India are not safe. We always read the news of terrorist attacks, bomb explosion, , accidents, murders etc. Many politicians are corrupted and they are not doing anything for our country. They are just selfish for money. So security measures are not effective. But it is our responsibility also to follow security rules.

Hi!! I don't think its the way you say.I am a person who travels a lot and mostly by road.In south the highways are not as you say and I don't think there is problem with the construction of highways. Its just that they take 5 years to build a bridge, what to do we have horrible politicians here who are just useless and corrupted. The roads in the cities are horrible I need to agree, but nothing much can be done. This is because people don't elect the right ones and try to complaint later

Hi friend, you are right. India is having lot of problems apart from this new issue. But this issue made a great impact in peoples life and lot of girls come forward now to made a complaint about their previous issues. So it seems to be Women's protection is a great issue in our country. In my opinion women's have proper protection in our country, in fact the women's in our country is having more freedom compared with other countries in the world and we are giving equal importance to the women's. Some girls misusing this freedom and facing unwanted issues due to their activities.
As you mentioned most of the highways in our country is having lot of ups and downs and work is in progress in lot of places and we are in need to take diversion while crossing such kind of places. Government must take care of this issues to solve the problems
