No matter what I do, I keep getting sidetracked...

I sit down thinking I am going to be able to have a little fun on mylot, but then I think "oh yes, I have to start a load of clothes" or "there went the dryer." The kids might come and ask me a question, or I forgot to put something away or take something out for dinner. Some days are just like that. What has you sidetracked today?

Dishes used to distract me. I would sit down and do something and then immediately remember there were dirty dishes in the sink and no matter how much I tried to avoid them, I wouldn't be able to be productive until I washed them. I've eliminated this from my life however as now, as soon as I use dishes I wash them right away. that way, by not leaving dishes in the sink and always doing them as soon as I've used them, I never find my sink full of dirty dishes! Pretty effective!

I think that's the way with all of us Moms. I know I can't study or concentrate when I know there are dirty dishes in the sink or the floor needs to be vacuumed. I don't like a lot of dishes on the counter either.

Yes I find the best tactic is trying to maintain a clean home instead of letting things pile up whether it be dishes, laundry etc. Obviously with other responsibilities, this is not always the easiest tactic to execute but striving definitely helps maintain a clean home than laziness!

I find it helps to write down what I need to accomplish each day. In other words, a 'do to' list. When I was raising a family, I would make double or triple batches of that meal, such as spaghetti, and then freeze what is extra. This helped me save time in cooking. It does help to find a moment to collect your thoughts and get yourself together - even when raising kids. What got me sidetracked today is that my husband and I slept in - and we have lots to do. So, we have to sort out what is the highest priority and leave some things for tomorrow or next week. But we have learned to relax and take life easy - which I think is most important. Just focus on your children - they will grow up fast enough - and then, everything else will fall into place. Leave a little time for yourself but your focus is your children.

I make "to do" lists as well and they are very helpful. It's good that you and your husband are also able to find time to relax, especially in the fast paced society of today. Life whizzes by us so fast that relaxing is very important. Oh, I know how fast the kids grow up. My oldest is 28 and my youngest is 12. I love my kids and I always have them on my mind. Always!

We live in a very different world than our ancestors did...It used to be that certain things were done on certain days. Laundry was always a Monday chore, and of course it used to take all day. Other days were set aside to make bread and other baked goods. Evening was for darning and sewing. Children were not the problem they are today...If they were little, they were in the cradle. Toddlers were put in the care of an older child or Grandmother. Older children were put to work helping with all the chores...They were definitely not spoiled with fancy gadgets and toys. Nor did they spend hours mesmerized by a TV or video game.

This is true! Maybe I am doing to much at one time. I remember the song I learned in kindergarten: This is the way we wash our clothes so early Monday morning, this is they way we iron our clothes so early Tuesday morning, etc... I use to love to sing and dance to that song.

Yes I always get sidetracked as well. I was in the middle of writing this when my kids all wanted a drink and I got the dishes done real quick because they were driving me crazy! Lol. When you have kids, there will always be something to sidetrack you... =)
