Of course I had Bill come down for dinner tonight, and I fixed his favorite yeast rolls. I have to allow them to rise after forming them into rolls. I have to allow them to rise 45 minutes before I pop them in the oven. While they are rising the house smells wonderful from the yeast wafting into the air.
I was also working on Bill's Christmas gift (we decided that with Bill's infection and my not feeling well we would do Christmas in January) which is a set of machine embroidered sheets. The sheets have cars, motorcycles, planes, hot air balloons, and race cars on them. It isn't a kiddy type embroidery, it is a "he man" type embroidery. It has taken nearly 30 hours so far and I haven't finished the top sheet (queen size). Anyhow before I shut down for the evening I needed to finish the one pattern I was working on, so I headed for the machine thinking about what color I wanted to use...I got behind the sewing table and looked into the kitchen... I nearly lost it all!!! On the counter, comfortably nestled on top of the towel that was covering the rolls was......yep you guessed it.....KHUAY!!! He was folded up as elegantly as a Siamese cat can lay, with his front paws tucked under his chest, his tail curled up around his hind leg, and his eyes closed in that super pleased expression that cats can get when they are really comfortable. And of course he was purring like crazy, with his ears at attention listening to the music of his purring! Of course he had no idea that he had just smooshed a dozen and a half of rolls! He was just pleased with the wonderfully comfortable and super smelling spot to lay on.
How many of you have had a crazy cat lay in the middle of your freshly formed rolls or loaves of bread? Or is it only in my daffy cat's mind that laying on a newly formed special smelling bed on the counter is the absolutely perfect place to lay and view his world.

Well, since I have dogs that can't jump up on a counter, the only thing they can do, (and only did once because now I push the food towards the back) and that is knocking food off the counter to enjoy "people" food.. It was about 3 months after we got them and I just formed the matzah balls and was waiting for the water to boil. Sure enough, (I firmly believe it was Ciara) I am sitting in the living room when I heard a crash. I ran into and though Ciara acted innocent, Penny was enjoying the "feast"

The rolls were saved, and were really tasty. I absolutely love Khuay and I would love to crawl into his mind and figure out what goes on in there! I'll post more later, I need to get ready for my trip to Stanford and my doctor's appointment. I was just waiting for the bathroom to heat up so I could take my bath and get ready.

The street cats around my house have been unfriendly with me because every time they tried to get close I pushed them away. One day I was not aware of their coming into the kitchen and one of them snatched my fried fish. I charged him and he went away like crazy.

!!! I shouldn't laugh but that is so typical of cats!!! I could see my crew doing the same thing!!!
Carmelanirel is right, if you're kinder to the street cats then they may not steal your food. Also, consider the fact that cats are on the earth for our protection. Cats are working critters and they catch mice, rats, gophers, and other rodents. Plus they also will attack snakes! I couldn't believe it when one of my cats tied in and attacked a rattle snake, she was protecting her home and her person (me). The rodents carry disease that can be fatal to humans...so they are performing a service. Europe was nearly whipped out in the middle ages because of the bubonic plague, so take that into consideration. Cats also will pee and poop to mark their territory. So you may find some areas that they have eliminated in...but usually it is out of the way of humans. Especially in the case of poop as it is a signal to their predators that they are around. That is a huge reason why they bury their poop.
While you may not really like cats, I always look at things in the relationship to my life. I would hope that if I were hungry that someone would give me something to eat...and cats are the same way. Find an area in your yard that is safe and not important to your landscaping and is away from human traffic. Set up a feeding station for your furry thieves and give them scraps and even some cat food. You will be amazed at the change in both your feelings towards the cats and their reaction to you.
I am a cat lover, and currently have four semi feral cats that I take care of. When I first started feeding them they would run away like crazy. Now all four are welcoming of a friendly pat and feeding time. I have written often about Ralphie, a 12 - 16 year old feral. He wouldn't come near me and would beat up all the other cats in the area. Then one day he came to my doorstep with his face swollen 5 times its usual size. He had a horrible infection! He was a bag of bones with a little fur over it. I started feeding him, of course I had to cut up his food really fine, and make it so that he could lap it up without having to chew it too much. The infected area burst open, and the wound was open clear down to the bone. Ralphie and I were sure that he wouldn't make it, but with tender loving care and good food he survived. He now is constantly by my side, and he keeps the yard clear of rodents and other vermin. He is as faithful as a dog when it comes to being loyal.
Anyhow, give it a try. A little food goes a long way with a furry rodent eradicator. You might also find a new friend among the cats...at least your fish will be a bit safer!

I have not had that happen but it could. I can picture it in my mind's eye. I just normally do not do rolls. I have cats that curl up on the burners of the electric stove when they are cooled down.

nope his smeller is fine and my imaginaton is gone hogwild as I can smell that lovely yeasty warm smell clear over here on the West Coastr in GardenGrove Ca.Khuay must have really loved the soft perch and that gr eat odor the best of two cat worlds lol. I have not had that happen but my Cat Midnight used to love to lay of warm clothes specially sheets just out of the
dryer as if I had made that nest just for a big black tom cat. lol.
Siamese too ae a breed unto themselves i think. I went to visit a nurse friend I w rked with and she had two Siamese cats., Seems the male was upset with me. why? I had just taken his chair, his special throne fit only for a Male Siamese.
She called him King. He walked over to me hissed a few times then plop up on mylap all ten or twelve pound of him, turned aro nd three times his paws digging in a bit for the perect leveling then laid there and purred. He looked at me right down his rouyal nose and went yeow.
We both laughed ourselves silly as she said he did not warm up to most people.,But I had just come from work and was in my hospitally smelling uniform so I guess he just accepted me
as if I had the right scent.. lol.

I now feel very fortunate that none of our cats ever decided to make a bed on rising bread. I normally don't make rolls, but I'd be pretty upset if my long loafs of rising rye were claimed as a napping place. I don't have cats of my own anymore, but I don't recall any of my mom's indoor cats doing this either. Glad your rolls turned out OK after all.
