Cute... and on sale, too!

Even though I am a northerner, I have been somewhat lax about restocking some of my wintertime arsenal of accessories. For one, I had tossed my ratty old gloves before we left Florida, because I figured that I could easily replace them once we were back here in the north. Of course, I don't spend significant amounts of time outside during the winter. So, buying new gloves sort of got pushed back. Today, though, was wickedly cold... and, of course, we were out in it. So, after we were finished with an appointment, I dragged my boyfriend into a nice store that was having a really good sale and found some gloves as well new ear warmers for him (since he is always losing things, and he just lost his other ones). They are cute. They are comfy. They are warm. And, the great news... they were 50% off! They were originally $36, so that half-off discount was quite welcome. Do you stock up on wintertime gear before the season starts, or are you like me and buy things as needed? Have you gotten any great deals on winter accessories recently? Looking around that store today, it seems like a great time to buy.

I try to buy clothes off season when they are on sale. I tried to buy some capris in the fall but couldn't find any in my size. Tried to find Christmas yarn to make some scarfs for next year and all the Christmas crafts and yarn are now gone out of the stores. It's all about Valentines' Day now. So, I am going to be watching the off season clothing for the bargains very carefully now.

There are definitely some decent sales to be found right now. The stuff that was on sale at this store was mostly winter appropriate, and I think that we are going to have quite a bit more winter coming our way.

Christmas stuff sells out fast around here...I love getting my Christmas stuff at 90% off just before New Years. One year I bought $500 worth of Christmas craft supplies at $10! The friend that was with me kept squawking "Do you know how much this is going to cost you???? You're spending hundreds of dollars!!!!" The person about passed out when we finished the transaction. I had 6 huge bags of Christmas stuff and a 10 foot long receipt for the $15!

I usually wait until the stuff is 75% off or better. I got two pairs of isotoner gloves for $3.50 each...they were originally $38! I had a pair for winter driving and I loaned them to my eldest granddaughter who wore them to play in the mud! Since I have arthritis in my hands I really need warm gloves for driving in the winter (even though it's California and I live close to the ocean it still gets darned cold here! We've even had heavy snow falls here. It happens about every ten years so we're due again this year. I also have to brag about the winter coat that I got for $5 and the pair of darling semi western boots that I got for $4. I buy off season and make sure that the stuff I buy isn't the trendy or in clothing that will be out of style the next season. I also lucked out and got some new shorts for $4 a pair, since they were left over from last season and they were in the men's department (Hey, cut me some slack, the men's clothing is far better made than most of the women's stuff and if you look the discounts on men's clothing is larger than the womens. Plus the fabric for men's clothing is much better quality than the crap they use for women's clothing! Check it out! It's one of those things I learned many years ago in a stray business class I took.) Mentioning winter clothing reminds me of living in Montana for 6 very long years! I don't tolerate cold very well and I don't snow ski or anything like that so I abandoned the state as soon as I had the funds to move. Where did you move to? After living in Florida (I visited the state twice...loved the weather up to a point) I wouldn't want to go north again....it would be like my living in Thailand for 9 months and then my ex got transferred to Montana in October! It was in the 90's in Thailand and in the 30's and 40's in Montana. I thought I was going to become a pop-sickle.

Florida was very definitely not for me. I knew that before I even got there, and being there just confirmed it. As long as we're in the U.S., I'm trying to keep the boyfriend in New England. He still brings up Europe sometimes, so there is some question as to whether we're staying in the States. He tends to eye distant shores. We'll see...

Personally when it comes to buying new things like this, a lot of times I wait and see if these are really items I should own. A lot of times I will only buy items like this when really feel it is acquired. I just do not saint to buy things I will not use much and loose or misplace.

If you don't think that warm gloves are something that you need to own, you obviously don't live in a northern climate. The day that I finally got around to buying gloves, it was so cold that I am lucky not to have turned into an icicle. I really didn't mean to wait that long to buy them, but I'd gotten so caught up in other things that I just never got around to it.

Personally, a great time to buy things like this is always the end of the season when everything goes on sale. I am one that s lot of times will wait for sales unless it is something I need right then. Plus when you get a good deal on things you really need, it makes it even better.

I have things for years, I just wear the same coat and gloves or mitts, hat and scarf all the time.

I do as well. My previous gloves had seen a lot of wear; they weren't worth bringing back with me. So, they got tossed. These new ones are well made, and they are designed for the cold northern climates to which I tend to gravitate. Although we likely won't remain in this area on the long-term, our next move will also likely be to a place that gets just as cold or even colder than here.

I don't really worry about winter gear. Sure it can get cold but not very very cold and i usually am never out in it. I do need to get a pair of gloves as I haven't had any in awhile, but I do have winter jackets so that works for me. It's not been very cold here this winter though.

It can get dangerously cold here. Today was bad enough that I was chilled to the bone... and I am a native northerner. My boyfriend is not overly fond of the cold. He is one to break out his ear warmers when it's in the 50s.
