Some people can be so lazy!

When it comes to getting rid of good furniture some people just drop it off by those collection boxes or dumpsters for clothes and shoes to be collected and reused. Anyway I go to those boxes, they seem to be all over the place now like by laundry mats, grocery stores and other places,to drop off clothes I don't use anymore. Lately when I drop off clothes or just drive past some of those collection sites,I see people have dropped off furniture, for example! To me it shows people are lazy, inconsiderate and have no common sense! It is so much better to drop this stuff off at a Salvation Army or have them pick it up for you if you can't or don't want to take it there! I know the stuff is moved away sooner or later. I have no idea who picks it up and where it goes. I doubt it gets put in the trash becuase they don't pick that stuff up either! It is just disturbing and wish people would not do this!!

I think these people are least bothered than actually lazy. An old couch might not mean much to them, and hence it's easy for them to discard it so easily. A little more thought and structure into this disposal would definitely not only help our lucky 'donors' (after all, they will be buying new furniture) but also those who are genuinely in need of these basic amenities. Thanks for the post. Good point brought in light.

There are people out in this world who need furniture! Instead people like to try and dump it anywhere! People just don't care on top of being lazy! It makes me sick! It is like other things! People try to have the trash men pick up all matresses and tv's! It doesn't happen! That stuff doesn't belong in landfills and much of it can be recycled! Plain and simple!

My first reaction when I read your discussion was that I wish I had enough money to get rid of my old furniture and buy some new stuff!! I wonder if it's landlords emptying out houses where they've had to evict renters? Of course, it could be that they honestly think the charities could use the furniture but why leave it out in the weather? I don't think the Salvation Army charges for picking things up. That might compromise their tax-exempt non-profit status. There are people to call that would take the furniture away for free providing it is in shape to be sold. Either way, it is most inconsiderate to dump it near a bin not meant for such large donations. Also, most trash companies will pick up large items like couches free of charge once or twice a year. There are very few excuses to dump stuff like that!

If they are restricting what goes into the landfill and refusing to pick up old furniture, I wonder what they expect people to do with them? Burn them? Then they'd probably issue a ticket for air pollution! It's no wonder that when you say the word "government", so many people are automatically disgusted. They rail on and on about protecting the environment and cleaning up the landfills and restrict what can go there then complain when people dump their noncollectable refuse in out of the way spots. Government agencies just infuriate me with their shortsightedness and just plain stupidity.

Well I have heard stories of what people drop off at the Salvation Army too that is so crappy they can't sell or use it! I think people just don't want to pay for having it disposed of! What a nasty thing to do to an organization that just wants to help people!

Maybe that could of been the reason I see people just dumping old furniture like I have! That is not a nice thing to do at all! People just don't want to pay the money to get of it properly! I have found a place that takes old tv's and other electronics to be recycled! Computers and tv's you pay the people to take it off your hands. Twenty for a tv and ten for a computer. That is what I did and I am proud of it!

I agree. Some of it looks like furniture that might have been useful to someone but who the heck wants it after it;s been sitting outside in the weather and bugs and who knows what else could have gotten on it. I say if they can bring it to one of those boxes then surely they could go a bit further and find a salvation army or some other thrift store. If it is junk...take it to the dump.

I agree. If it useable take it to a trift store! In the city I live in we have 3 of them and one is a Salvation Army! If the furniture is bad,the people should of taken it to the dump! People sure don't care and lazy now a days!

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are absolutely right, even i think such people are very lazy who cannot keep their belongings clean and at least they should be sensible enough to keep their clothes properly. In life some things has to be done by your own self and we cannot always expect a second person to come and assist us in doing the same. What say?

If I needed to get rid of furniture I would call the Salvation Army to come and pick it up. If they couldn't I would ask a friend or two who own suv's or trucks to help me deliver the furniture. I am not a lazy person! I care!

Discipline should be in a life. Some people are so much lazy even we think that there is nobody lazy than them. Putting things is sequence called the discipline.

Yeah we have one of those boxes near are local laundry mat it's like a dumpster size box. I have never seen furniture dropped off though because at are salvation army there's a truck outside where you can put furniture there if the store is not open and can drop off clothes there as well. I always drop off clothes at the salvation army instead of that box thing. I'm pretty sure either the local thrift job clears out those boxes or even the salvation army people, not quite sure on that either.

People don't care! Lucky to get them dumped off at these places. Where I live they are just put out by the trash bin. It gets pretty ugly with dirty mattresses and such out there for days on end. Salvation Army won't pick it up either if it is stained or dirty. What do people do when they can't afford to remove it themselves?

well here in mexico, people put old furniture and things out for the trash man. But most are gone before trash truck comes. Many dont have alot here. And those things even sometime broken are more than what many have here. Have a great day there...

I never cared for those collection boxes I dont understand why they have them out because you can go like you to salvation army or good will or the local mission and donate your items. Normally when I have big items like furniture I always call one of these places for them to come and pick it up.
