Should I report her?

A lady I use to work with, I bumped into her at Walmart awhile back. We got together, she seperated from her husband and got her own place. She asked if I wanted to see the place.
I go and she has a middle age cat, which looks a lot older, severely obese, and has sore up and down her back.
I told her about these sores, I give some people credit. She goes yes, I noticed I'm not bothering bringing her to the vets, I dont have money to waste (yet she can buy cigarettes alcohol and go out for coffee everyday).
These sores can be from anything, bug butes, allergies, stress, even certain diseases. This cat doesn't have it's shots nor has seen a vet in 5 years.
I just sat there going wow your abusing and neglecting your animal. A few people have told me to file an anonymous abuse/ neglect report.

I agree with Marìa, but I would not listen to an annonymous complaint. Where I live, you have to tell your name and a way to identify you if you want the authorities to do something.

I would report her regardless of the consequences. The cat needs treatment. If she really loved the animal she'd find a way to do something about it or relinquish it to someone who would.

That's a tough call. I guess it depends on whether you want to continue a friendship with her. If you want to be friends with her, don't report her. You know enough about cats to figure out if the cat has fleas, in which case you could offer treatment. Even just suggesting a flea collar (I know it's not the best thing but it's something).
You seem to be a magnet for people who don't care for their pets.

I'd say smoking was more of a waste of money than looking after the health of a pet.

I personally don't believe it's fleas, or anything simple. They are large bumps, so they are most likely tumours, or a disease. I filed an annonymous complaint, and we will wait and see. Doesn't matter if it's just fleas, she refuses to waste her money, so she is neglecting the need of the animal.

I am late on this post. You may have taken an action.
There is nothing wrong with reporting it for the sake of the cat's health. If she can't take care of the cat, maybe she should have someone else take care of it.
This is what I'm curious about. Does this cat belong to her husband? The separation may have triggered some kind of ignorance and neglect.

I think you should report her, if she is incapable of taking proper care of an animal then she shouldn't have one. I don't know what is the point of having a pet that suffers from an illness or an allergy for example and you don't care to call the vet or do the shots.

I wouldn't report her to be honest.Probably she got her own problems and her cat is a bit back in the list. You said she is seperated from her husband, haven't enough money etc.If it was me, the cat wouldn't be my first care as well.A new home for the cat will be the best solution tho.

I ended up reporting her, you take on an animal you ake on their necesities, and needs, just like a child, don't push them to the back burner. If I knew you in real life I would associate with you, I would give you a cold shoulder for being so selfish, and uncaring, just shows what type of person you actually are. I would do anything for animals regardles of the momney or not.

I read the in comments that you chose to report her and I think that was the right decision. I must admit that I would have found it very hard to control my temper if I had been at her house and heard her say that she didn't want to waste the money on the vet. If she prefers to spend her money on other things, that is fine, but she should have thought about that before she decided to get a cat! Visits to the vet is part of your responsibility as a pet owner and if you are not willing to accept that you shouldn't get a pet. People who neglect their pets make me angry and I wouldn't hestitate to report them.

That is awful that she thinks taking an animal to the vet when they need it is a waste of money! That is crazy. But she doesn't think drinking or anything is a waste of money?!? That is confusing...
I'm glad you did report her, she needs it! Poor cat, I hope someone does something...
