Is the lefty weird?

China

I am a left-hander.Except writing(I write with my right hand), the other things I do I use my left-hand. And here comes a problem. When using the chopsticks or using the knife or doing something else, some people will be suprised to say :Wow ,you are a lefty. And how can you write by your right hand? It seems so uncommon to them. Oh ,god! Is it really weird? Does anyone here have the same experience with me?

Hi, susnshine! My sister is left-handed and I had a brother who was left-handed. My other brother and myself are right-handed. What I find unique is that you are only right-handed when it comes to writing. I wouldn't say weird, you notice I used the word unique. If you do one or more things with one hand rather than the other it's called mixed-handedness (also referred to as cross-dominance). Can you also write with your left hand? I found a site that you might find interesting http://hunternuttall.com/blog/2009/03/mixed-handedness/ There is also a lot of research suggesting ADHD in children connected to mixed-handedness. I find it a rather interesting subject. And to answer your questions, I don't think it's weird and no, I don't share this uniqueness with you. I am unique in other ways.

It is so nice of you to say that. I am flattered. In fact I cannot write with my left hand. I have tried it, but it looks ugly. And the same thing, I don't get used to using my right hand to do any other things. Anyway, thanks a lot. Have a nice day.

I don't think it's weird, it's just uncommon. And some people are just plain stupid and ask silly questions. Like, if someone's a lefty, why should they have tried rigthing with the right hand? It shouldn't be the norm. Everyone should write how they feel like and how they are able to. I personally, even if I'm right-handed, HATE it when kids are forced to write with their right hand, just because that's common. Common doesn't equal the only way that is good... these kids are going to be so frustrated, and then they would be mocked because they don't write as beautifully as those who are basically right-handed...

I am born to be a lefty, so I get used to using the left hand most of time. It is normal to me though it is uncommon to someone. You get a point here. We are just be ourselves. Have a nice day.

No, of course not. It is quite stupid to judge a person whether he/she is weird because of he/she is a left-handed. Actually here we often think that the left-handed people are smarter. Perhaps this is because there are more people who are right-handed. So left-handed people are much more special. Do you know that many Presidents of USA are also left-handed? You shall be proud of yourself because you are left-handed

There are people who use their right hand and there are people who use their left hand. It is not weird whether you use your right or lefty hand. It is said that people who use their left hand is usually very artistic. Paul McCartney, the former Beatle, and the great artists Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael are all left-handed ones. I have friends who use left hands though the majority of us are right-handed people.

Hi! No it isn't weird to me! My mother is exactly like you, she writes with her right hand and does everything else with the left. She said that she started writing with her left and at school they were making fun of it so she writes with the right now! But her left hand has more strength, just like my right hand does for me that I am right handed! It's not weird, it is different from what most people do and it's cute!

You're gifted! I've read some articles before saying that being able to use both your left and write hand (especially in writing) makes you somewhat superior in other individuals (intelligence as subject) because with that you can make the parts of your brain work together and not specialize in just one aspect.

I would love to be ambidextrous but sadly I haven't got the ability to write with my left hand, I guess it's something you learn when you are young, and it's the part of your brain which dictates which hand you can write with. When I was a child it was actually seen as a handicap those that wrote with a left hand and it was strongly discouraged, I know a child in my class who was punished for writing with his left hand. Fortunately that has changed now and people who are left handed are now considered more intelligent!

And what is strange about being left-handed? The last time that I had any real issue with people not understanding handedness was when I was a little kid and they would have one kid handing out scissors for classroom projects. My very dimwitted classmates would always give me the "left-handed" scissors--and I would proceed to use them with my right hand--each and every time. Being dimwitted, they couldn't quite grasp that such would be the case--each and every time. I am pretty much ambidextrous--as are many lefties. I prefer my left hand for writing and eating, but my right hand is given many other tasks such as playing racquet sports. If someone were to make a negative comment on my left-handedness, I would likely be moved to make a comment regarding his/her intellect.

I am right handed but my old friend was left handed at school she had to sit with her left hand to one side and learn to write with her right hand.Thank goodness things have changed. You can buy left handed tin openers, pens ect.No it is not weird at all just different.People are always fascinated by someone a bit different.Don't let it worry you.We are all individuals if we were all the same the world would be a boring place

I am a right handed person. But I use my left hand in opening bottle caps. I feel that my grip is stronger in my left hand than in my right hand.

There are tons of left handed persons here on the earth, whether you are left handed or left handed is decided in the womb itself, research says this. I am right handed. I am not at all surprised if i see a left handed person lol

Hi, friend, I searched the internet and it says lefty is inherited. I believe it's true. My father is lefty, then my sister is lefty, then now my daughter is lefty, so interesting, my daughter got them from my father, so it's atavistic. My father and my sister have the same experience that when they were young , they were forced not to use left hand instead of right hand , so they can use both hands when they doing things with hands. But I never force my daughter to do like that, I only ask her to write with right hand, no requirment for other things. So now my daughter(8years old) is just like you. At first, she can write with two hands, it's strange that she can write the right words with both hands, but still I persuade her to use only with right hand, as I think she will face trouble when she writes in ink with left hand. I hear people who are lefty are always clever.SO I am happy for my daughter's lefty.

True. My younger brother and I got it from my father. My father is a lefty, too. I remember when I was still a kid, I was forced to change this way as well. But I falied. As I turned older, I get used to it. You are a wise mother. It makes no difference by using the right hand or left hand. But I should admit that someone really gets surprised over a little thing. Have a nice day.

Don't be upset. It is said lefty is more brilliant,I do everything with right hand, but since my right hand easy to be tired because of using computer,I begin to handle mouse by left hand, this has became one of my habit now.And just like you said, when people first saw me doing it,they always say at least one words,"wow, you are using mouse with left hand!",I guess people have to say something.

People say that the one who is left-handed is really smart.I do everything with my right hand.My aunt is a left-hander,when we have a dinner together, the one who sits on her left side will have a big fight when eating by using chopstics.

It is true. When having dinner with someone else, I should sit away from the one next to me. But it doesn't matter on this issue. Have a nice day.
