My boss at my seasonal job asked me to stay

My boss at my seasonal job asked me to stay on as a permanent employee last week. I start my other seasonal job as an income tax preparer in the next week or so, but he is willing to work around my schedule there just to keep me. He added that once tax season was over he would start giving me more hours again. I told him that I would stay on. It means getting to keep my 20% employee discount even if I am barely working any hours and the extra income will be nice. Have you ever worked a seasonal job? Have you ever had a seasonal job turn into something permanent?

That's terrific! I don't know where you work, but a 20% discount at any store sounds good to me!

Yeah, I've bought several things at Big Lots. Including a Santa last month to play a trick on my sister.

I work at Big Lots. I don't know if you have any of those around where you live or not. I buy my laundry soap, dish soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and other things there, so it adds up. I also got most of the kids Christmas presents there.

That's great, because you know when the tax thing is over you would need another job again, so at least now you have one.

This job is not full time and not enough money, but it is better than nothing right? I will have to work on a second part time job or a full time job not too long after tax season though because I don't want to go through my tax return so quickly.

Yeah, I'm trying to do the same thing, though I'd rather just work 1 full time job.

I just shut up and do the job and do it right which not everyone there does. I guess that is why I was asked to stay.

My current job was a seasonal job at first. They liked me and kept me though my boss wasn't so sure at first because my availability fluxuates but because I know a year in advance when I can work she thankfully has kept me on. I just wish they paid more, as it was less than what I wanted to work for but nothing in my previous field would be that flexible.

I am glad my boss is being flexible with me on my schedule right now. He seems to want me there for whatever time I am willing to give him.

I was never employed for a seasonal job but the seasonal work of maintaining Mango trees can be similar. From October to December, we spray the mangoes with potassium to induce flowering. From buds to to fruits, it would take 4 months to take care of them.

I would consider that similar. Yumm..I love mangoes.

Wow! I guess you made a really good impression on the boss, for him to be so flexible and wanting you to stay on, guess you should feel right proud of yourself! I had a seasonal job many many moons ago, it was only going to be temporary, the company was new and just finding it's feet so needed people to do basic menial things like taking staples out of worksheets, and selotaping and repairing torn pages, doesn't sound much and I guess most people wouldn't be prepared to sit down and do this for 5 hours a day. I didn't mind, I was grateful of the short term work, well they called me in on the last day and complimented me on how I just got on with my work without ever moaning about the work being boring that they offered me a permanent position, but as a supervisor! I jumped at it, it meant more hours too and something permanent. I am not frightened of hard work and it can be the most boring of jobs but the fact that I was employed meant a great deal.

A few of the seasonal people were asked to stay on, but some were not asked to stay. Good for you being asked to stay on and as a supervisor!

Mazel Tov! No I have never worked a seasonal job. I worked at a lot of different positions when I was younger and got tired of the politics of it. I went into business for myself. Most of the time I was my only employee... For a while I had a construction business where I had 17 employees, but that was complicated.

I bet that was complicated with 17 employees. Working for yourself is probably a bit more appealing than working for someone.

No this hasn't happened to me although when a teenager I did work at temp jobs during the summer holidays. I do know of it happening to other people though. I am so happy for you as this shows the worth of yourself as an employee. You must feel so good about yourself apart from earning the extra income which I am sure will come in handy. Congratulations my friend

This job pays weekly and the other one pays bi-weekly, so it will be nice to have something even if not very much money coming in on a weekly basis to get me through to my bigger paycheck.

That is great that you were hired permanent after the holidays. I know that the money will come in handy and that the discount will help as well. I am sure that your hours will pick up after tax season. I have been trying to find a job, but had no luck. I am going to study and take the state exam so I can substitute teach and will be getting my online business going by April.

I am glad that my boss is willing to be flexible with me during tax season. Knowing that I will start getting more hours when I need them is a good feeling that I am thankful for.

Maybe that is the equivalent of part-time teaching or substituting for someone who is on leave. I have tried that once, a very short period actually because the person I substituted for only gave birth and was back in a couple of months.

It would be similar to that. I was only supposed to be there to help out with the extra business they were getting because of the holiday season, but I am glad I get to stay at least a few hours a week.

I love seasonal jobs. There is no boredom. You don't take the job home with you. You enjoy working more.

Congratulations lilybug, that's wonderful news! No, I've never worked a seasonal job, although I did get hired by one once. However, I ended choosing another job over it for various reasons. So I never had the opportunity to find out where it would lead.

First of all, good for you! Your boss willing to keep you means that he values what you do and cherishes you as an employee. This is very good and means that you are a responsible and reliable person. I think employers like him are rare kind these days, so you really got lucky, working to deserve it. As to me, it happened once and it really felt good to be told you're wanted as an employee.
