Is it likely, or even possible that the American spouse of an American expatriot obtain employment in Germany, given the following factors:
1. Female
2. Middle-aged (47)
3. Un-degreed (high school only)
4. Non-German language
5. Only been in Germany

I think the chances are very thin ...
First of all it depends on the status the spouse has in Germany - If you are just there on a spuse permit you will be not allowed to work as far as I know .
Seeing the current unemployment rate I think it will be very hard to find any sponsor for a job without any experience nor speaking the German language apart from the age group.
As I was told by friends you are almost to old for most jobs when you reach your 40's....

The language will be a problem. All the other factors are not important, depends on your personality!!
Try anything around the barraks / installations your spouse is working at. You will find shops seeking staff with good command of the english language. But try to get into German lessons fast. The best would be 1 on 1 lessons, go out, but not with your english speaking friends.
Whatever your hobby is try to get into it with a german club! My wife learned german that way fluently in less than 3 months.
The moment you know the language you won't have no problems at all.
