"The more I drink, the better you sound." Oh, I wish that were so.

I went to a karaoke tonight. Not been to one for several years. At the beginning, people were sounding fairly decent. There were 3 to 5 people who really sounded pretty good. But then there were more who really should not sing. After I had a few double fuzzy navels in me, even the bad ones didn't sound too bad. But as time went on, they sounded worse...like a bad American Idol audition. Eek!!! I don't know why, but it seems that every time I do go to a karaoke, someone has to sing "Crazy" by Patsy Cline. I tell you what, they really shouldn't. Nobody, and I mean nobody, can sing "Crazy" like Patsy Cline. The lady who sang it tonight was so off-key, I wanted to put earplugs in my ears. myLot's very own Forever_The_Lamb got up and sang 3 or 4 songs. A few that I remember are "Dirty Deeds (Done Dirt Cheap)" and "The Devil Went Down To Georgia". He also sang a song by Sammy Hagar. He was one of a handful who could sing. All in all, I did have a good time. Tonight was the first time I met theLamb and we live like only a few counties away from each other. He lives in Illinois and I'm in Indiana. Turns out, he and I grew up a few counties away from each other in Illinois.

That is so nice that you and Lamb met and had a good time. =) I have personally never been to karoke, always wanted to go to one but I doubt I would have the guts to get up and sing anyway... It sounds like you had such a good time, and yes some people just do NOT belong singing! Lol.

You don't have to get up and sing. Just listen to a few good singers and quite a few cringe-worthy singers. You and your husband oughta go to a karaoke at least once. I did have a good time and I'm glad I went. It put me in a little bit better frame of mind since I few things going on around here that aren't all too great . Hopefully, I can get them taken care of pretty soon.

Thanks for the and encouragement. If they don't work out, I have to come up with Plans A and B. Maybe even C.

That's true, I love singing and people say I am good but I am a scaredy cat! Lol. But we should go one day as I am sure we would have fun. =) I really hope whatever is going on in your life that it gets better for you.

I've only been to a karaoke once and I had the BEST time. It was at a pub and a group of 6 of us went to dinner first then into the karaoke room/bar. After polishing off the best part of a bottle of cheap bubbly, I got up to sing. I had on this awesome red dress that I could flounce around and do actions in and I sang Big Spender. I actually got the right key straight off and it went really well. Mind you there was a fair bit of giggling going on as well as singing. I won second prize too.

Oh Cool!!! Second prize!! Congrats MsTickle. That is my favorite song from "Sweet Charity". I love Shirley MacLaine in the movie. I've seen a few videos from stage performances, too. If done right, it can be really funny. I'm glad you had fun with it.

Nobody except maybe LeAnn Rimes, but I expect she wasn't there...

No, she wasn't. Come to think of it, the first time I heard LeAnn Rimes sing, I thought it was Patsy Cline!

I've never been to a karaoke bar. But if I did, I'd pretty much sound someone who the judges would kick out after the first note in X-Factor. But I'd do it for fun. I'd try to look for a place where the people aren't looking for master singers but crazies. But, with that being said, people should really be aware of their limits, and if you can't sing, you shouldn't sing really difficult songs, in that I agree with you. I hate it when people with weak and off-tune voices start to sing Without You by Mariah Carey or something like that. They should sing fun, uptempo songs huwhich have few notes in them - there it's more easy to hide if your voice isn't the best... especially if the song is a typical party song, then people would dance to it without really paying attention to your vocal abilities, or they would actually deem you as a brave and fun person... whereas, if you start to sing a really difficult, slow ballad, you're gonna give headaches to people :P.

Most people have a limited vocal range and when they go beyond it, they will strain their voice to hit the note, sound kinda screechy, or it just really doesn't come out all that much. I really don't have the guts to get up there and sing in a front of a bunch of people...especially solo. I would much rather sing with a group.
