The Republic of Maldives? I got a 2013 travel calender and on my birthday month The Republic of Maldives was pictured. It says that the primary language is English and has white sandy beaches...I'm sold. It say the best time to go is from December thru April...I'm thinking March. Anyone from here or visited that may offer an opinion would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I booked a flight to Mexico but sadly due to a hurricane it got canceled. So I still wished to visit any tropical destination. I asked a cheap travel agent and she offered a flight to the Male in the Maldives for just two hundred pounds. I booked that airline ticket which was for 14 nights. How perfect I had thought until I saw the accommodation prices in a Maldives Travel Guide Book in my local library. I borrowed that book and off I went home to read about it. I arranged to have 5 nights on an island called Asdu that wasn't too expensive. The boat trip to and from it cost quite a lot. I was able to walk around that little island in ten minutes. I took out a canoe around the little island. I sat in the shade and read a book. The sunset was lovely every evening. There was a trip arranged to a neighboring island where local people lived. That visit was interesting and enjoyable. I went to Male the capital city for 2 nights. It was noisy and busy. It was not a tropical island paradise. I stayed in a guest house and it was much cheaper than on the resort like accommodations on island paradises. It was great for souvenir shopping. I walked past the Grand Friday Mosque and it looked lovely. All local people in the Maldives are Muslim. I tried to find a resort island to visit that was low budget. I was told about an island called Gan which had a hotel called the Equator. I flew there on a tiny plane seeing islands and reefs out of the window. The hotel had a gorgeous looking swimming pool. It had been an old British airbase years ago. They had built bridges up the chain of islands. I hired a bike and cycled up the chain of islands on my own. The resort islands are flat with many palm trees. The sea is clear and the snorkeling is lovely. I was there in November 2005 just before the main tourist season. Yes, December to April is the tourist time. I liked the Maldives but I preferred the Seychelles. Both are pricey destinations.

Thank you so much for your response. This actually seems like a great vacation for me as I'm not looking for clubbing and such. I love laying on the beach all day and reading. As for the price I won't be footing the bill, lol.
