google slashed 2billion views from recording companies after the audit shows they were fake views inflated by artificial means. some of the artists who benefited from the fake youtube views are beyonce, rihanna, justin bieber, avril alvigne, etc. The push was enacted to combat hackers and social media promotion sites that built up views and likes on YouTube, making them appear more popular and driving advertising revenue. source: http://bit.ly/Tq7kTi

The people you mention dont need fake views because they are the ones that are trending now . If those people used it I guess everyone on youtube used it . Beside everyone used some sort of marketing tool online. Those people you mention dont get youtube pay either so its simple just marketing .

Dodgy as hell and the fact that this sneaky tactic is being used to push the most mundane and boring music out there is really annoying. If they were using it to promote an artist who was maybe trying to push the envelope a little bit I wouldn't be so bothered but this music is being created with the sole purpose of homogenizing our musical landscape and by extension dumb us down. There have been studies done and it is an undeniable fact that pop music is getting more and more the same as everything else. Unfortunately because I don't yet have enough mylot clout I can't post the link but these studies exist, and it's not just a subjective study, they worked in the most objective way you can when examining music.
