Can we use Google affiliate ads with Google adsense units?

They introduced this Google affiliate ads. My blog is eligible to run them, but I have not given the program a try. I am already using adsense units to monetize my blog. But since I have cosmetics reviews there, sometimes I get asked by my readers where they can find them. I have to recommend them to go to Walgreens, Macy's, etc (wherever the thing is available). Some say that such stores are not within their reach because of their home locations. So I have been thinking that maybe google affiliate ads are the answer to this problem. Before, they had Amazon affiliate ads that we could insert in our blogs. But the notion was that then we were not allowed to display adsense ads. Does Google affiliate program work in that same way? I really do not want to sacrifice those adsense units for a few posts. So is it okay to use both in the same blog? I actually don't have any expectation to earn anything from it. I just want to help the readers.
