It's 36 degrees and I still went walking

I wanted to go walking today; it's colder than yesterday. I called time and temp before walking and it was 36 degrees out. It was the same temperature on the outside thermometer. I wanted to see if it was correct.
I asked my daughter to stay with me while I walked... she usually just marches on. She is so fast. I can't walk fast at all with my arthritis and breathing issues. Oh that reminds me. I need to take a breathing treatment... I hate those things! Ugh!
I only walked one time around today. I don't know why I could do twice yesterday in 40 minutes and only once today in 30 minutes. I was slower today than yesterday. I just don't see why I was so slow today... but I'm glad I made the effort to get out.
It was so cold yesterday, and not as cold as today, but I froze. I wasn't dressed properly yesterday. I just had a hoody on and my blouse and skirt. I froze my legs off yesterday going twice, but I didn't stop. Today I dressed warm. I wore my hoody, my coat and my scarf and gloves. I stayed warm today while walking. My daughter just wore a jacket and no hat or scarf or gloves... she wasn't cold. I had to cover my mouth and nose because it was just too cold on me. My nose was running water from the condensation of the cold air hitting my warm nose tissues. So you see me all bundled up.
I did enjoy my walk, even though I was slower than a turtle! My daughter kept walking off and leaving me, and I had to tell her to wait up. If I fell, she would never know. I didn't feel as strong today as yesterday... but I am glad I did it.
Do you have any pictures of you in the cold? Or if you are in the warm temperatures, do you enjoy getting out and having pictures made? For me, it is validation that I did it. I'll put it on my WW page.
Please share your thoughts and experiences. Share any pics that you wish also.

there are many health benefits of walking. we know that. but under such temperature, i am not sure if it is healthy. what i know is that to do some exercises, one has to take precautionay measures of possible aggravation of any physical obstacles such as difficulty in breathing. in my case, i always take pleasure in going out and walking.

I enjoy walking too but it was harder today. It was easier yesterday. I like to work in the house to. I set my time and get busy. When I get done I enter my time in my activity counter on my Weight Watchers account. I receive points that can be used if I run out and still want something to eat.

It sounds like a good program for you to motivate your weight loss and good health.

I do not have pictures of me outside in the cold or the heat. I like to take pictures of other things when I walk. I like what you said about it validating you that you actually did it. You probably walked faster to keep warm when you had fewer clothes on you. It is not unusual to have a slower day with less effort after you have had a heavy exercise day. Good job being persistent.

My daughter took this pic of me. She said I looked like an Eskimo all bundled up while she just had a light jacket on. I was comfortable as long as I was bundled up. You may be right. I was very cold yesterday but didn't want to stop and go home and change. I was cold under that skirt. My face was red from the cold. My hands were cold too. I prepared today.
I want to have pictures so people who know me can see where I have been and where I am now. I'm about 118 pounds lighter than before I started my journey in 2001. I lost more, but you know how it goes. I got complacent and gained a lot back. I want to loose another hundred pounds. I hope to accomplish that this year. I want my family, my brother, niece and daughter to be proud of me. My daughter has never seen me below 200 pounds. I was 412 when I started. I'm 292 now. I eventually want to be at 160.

Wow! 36 degrees is good. THis week it is supposed to be in the double digits. Like right now it is 23 and last week it was in the single digits this time of day(2a.)but who knows what next week will bring. I need to get some tights or something to wear on my legs to keep them warm. I have sweatshirts and coats but nothing to warm my legs. Brrr! I finally found the hair thing that is like a hair band but wider at the ear area. Keeps my ears nice and warm. No pics of me in the cold.

My daughter and I both have our bouts with sinusitis. Not fun. It is warmer this week and snowing lightly during the late mornings last few days. I saw the highway equipment going out so good to know they are keeping the roads cleared. I have to go out tomorrow and the next day. I hybernate unless I really have to go out. Keep warm, my friend.

Hi Celticeagle! Good to see you this morning. I'm still in bed at 8:12 AM waiting for my daughter to get up. Wow! It is REALLY cold where you are. I don't want it any colder here. I have to wear a scarf around my face to keep my nose warm. I get sinus problems with the cold. My daughter doesn't mind the cold as much as I do. She just wears a jacket. No gloves, no hood, no hat, and no scarf.
Oh yes, tights. I must start looking for some for even colder temps. My legs get so cold they itch with the near freezing temps.

It's good that you are getting exercise. You may want to find some alternatives to walking on the really cold days, though, since that cold air may be a bit difficult with your breathing issues.
You may want to take a look at indoor options such as yoga for these cold days of winter. That way, you stay active but are not putting that sort of stress on your breathing.

Hi WG! Someone else mentioned yoga. I don't have transportation or the money to take classes, but u did think about getting a beginner's DVD to work with. Any poses on the floor, I couldn't do. It would take a crane to get me up! nut I do want to check it out to see if there is something I can do. I do take my Advair puffer before I go out. Right now I just get a bad runny nose from the cold.

I mention yoga, because it can be modified. It really is for anyone.
I would suggest investing in a good chair yoga DVD for starters, since that would be the gentlest way for you to start out. You would get the benefits of the workout without having to worry about having to get back up off the floor.
Now, having encouraged you to pursue yoga, I shall get my mat out tomorrow, dust it off and proceed to check out the yoga programs I've DVRed.

I enjoy walking in cold. Delhi is famous for its winter(temperature remains in the range of 0-5 Celsius during January). But, Delhi is notorious for its Summer(temperature remains above 40 Celsius).
So I was telling how I enjoy walking in chilly weather. I stroll to a shop to buy milk which is not very far from my house, but to enjoy chilly atmosphere, I take a long route to go to that shop and comes back from the same route enjoying each bit of my walk. But I cover myself completely before I leave, otherwise I am sure that I will fall sick to cold in just a single day walk.

Good morning! Welcome to Mylot. I'm glad to read that you enjoy your walks to the store so much. Where I used to live, my daughter and I would walk to the store for a diet Coke. I really enjoyed those walks. That was before I got so sick. I'm on the mend now and doing very well. There is no store in walking distance here where I live now. We just walk for the exercise now.
Hope you enjoy your time on the Lot. It's a great community.

Hi SunshineSophie! It's refreshing to see your username. I will be bundling and layering when I go out in the cold. My nose was better when I kept my scarf over my face. I will walk in the morning also if my daughter will walk with me again.

Your "slowness" today is probably a result of doing it twice yesterday, and your muscles complaining about having to do it again so soon. But you did make it at least once, so good on ya!

Those temps aren't so bad but I still get cold in those temps. They wouldn't bother me if I were younger.
