I have seen the movie atleast 4times so far. Yes it was written by Stephen King and the screenplay by Frank Darabont. The original name was Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.
Hope is a major part of the story, and something shown in many of the characters. Hope is the major force behind the lead character Andy, and Andy uses hope to change the other lead character Red.
Everybody should see this movie, because it shows that there is always hope.

I never read the story it was based on, but I love the movie. There's kind of a fantasy quality about it. A very grim fantasy, but there's still that element. I have no particular like or dislike for Tim Robbins but this was a great role for him and I thought he deserved an Oscar nomination (which I believe he didn't receive). And, Morgan Freeman is one of my favorite actors.

I did know that actually and while i agree that the movie was very well done i still think the written word is always better and in this case it was as well, just like the green mile the movie was well done but the books were just better, in a book they can get into so much more detail than they can in a movie, good discussion i love stephen king +

Yes and loved every minute of it, very very informative, I prefer Morgaon Freeman in this picture, a great actor indeed. Its rare that shows or movies predict what happened or happens in life. Have a great day all!!

I don't know what it was based on, the original title was "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption"
I loved the movie and it was close to being on target with the book.
Morgan Freeman is one of my favorite actors after watching him in "Kiss the Girls".
