I'm a stay at home mom. I have a very small part time job cleaning an office twice a month. Other than that I don't work outside of the home. My husband works and we manage on his income fairly well. My question is the people he works with thinks its very strange that in this day and age a women would stay home and raise the children and take care of him and the house. My kids are ages 7 and 11 so they are both in school during the day. I do all the house work, alot of the yard, we have a large yard over 2 acre with a very large garden, two kids, all the crap jobs( bills, laundry, drs appt, school functions, ect). I'm wondering is it outdated to be a stay a home mom?

My God, there is a lot of work in the house. Being a housekeeper or homemaker is work in itself. Laundry, cleaning the house, dishes, picking up the kids, tutoring them, cooking, ironing, the work is endless.

Its nice that you see it that way alot of people look at it in a very negative way.

It's too bad some people look at it in a negative way. I for one don't. If anything I appreciate stay at home moms (and dads) for everything that they do.

Hmm, it could be. It certainly doesn't seem that common anymore, does it? I myself became a stay at home mom shortly after I became pregnant with my oldest child. So, I didn't have a (paying) job for about 15 years (nor did I have much job experience before this). Even back then it was uncommon to be a stay at home mom (or even a housewife)...or so it seemed. But my husband and I weren't bothered by it. We wanted it that way. It's what worked for us...at least at the time anyway. However, things changed a few years ago due to unfortunate circumstances. Now he's the one that stays home while I go out and earn the money. And even though it might be odd to some, we don't care. It's what works for us now and that's all that really matters. Happy mylotting!
