So long story cut short, I have an old computer with 1gb ram in it. I'm trying to do so high end video editing. Sometimes it seems a bit slow. I am only using 2 of the 4 RAM slots in the computer. Is it worth buying 2 more sticks of RAM for the computer or should I just get a newer high spec computer. Specs 2x250gb SATA hard disks 1gb RAM running Ubuntu and Windows 8 All help appreciated -Al

I've taken some computer repair classes in the past and like the first thing you should always do is check the motherboard documentation. Some older motherboards do not support more than 4GB of RAM. Also, double check to make sure that your processor is 64-bits otherwise the OS cannot use more than 4GB of RAM. Personally I'd recommend getting a newer computer because I do not know how old yours is but the newer generation processors + the new SSD hybrid drives + the faster RAM will give you a much faster computer.
