India
January 9, 2013 8:33am CST
Last full week I was absent in mylot because I was in my mother's house. There in private bank my bank account was exist since last 12 years before marriage. But I was unable to operate this account since last 3 years and due to this my bank account was closed. 2000 rs. was balanced there I was worried but suddenly a bank manager said me dont worry madam write the application and explain the reason(dut to marriage and place is changed) why you were unable to operate the account regularly, attached identity proof and address proof then your account will be renew. I wrote the application and submit it then with in 2 hours my account is renewed and I withdraw 1000 rs. from bank. Do you have such experience. If you are not check your account till 1 year or more then your account was inactive.

Hello, welcome back. I hope you were enjoy at your mother's house. It is general rule of bank that if account is not operated for 3 year account is treated as inoperative account. When we make one transaction account is regular itself. I have one account which is not active. I recd notice from bank but I am not interested in operating this account.

Well, around here I think they have such a thing as lost money from places people have money sitting that they usually have forgotten about, or moved, etc. There are even Web sites you can check and see for unclaimed money, etc. I have heard many times the banks will do this, but usually try to contact the person first. Glad to hear that you were able to get everything resolved.

I have not experienced such problem but I guess all banks have the same rules/guidelines. If your account have no activity for years, I think they impose bank charges for being idle. But from what you have said, your account was back when you have submitted proofs of your ownership of the account and it seems that they don't deduct any amount from your account. If it is so, then I'm happy for you because you have proved your ownership of the account.

Surekharathi! Our bank account would become dormant and inactive after a period of no activity. I had a similar problem after I shifted residence ; one account was not operated for nearly two years; I even contemplated closing it because I was not too happy with the service there. But soon I had to shift again and I changed my mind and activated it before it reached the 'dormant' status.

Glad to see you again sis Yes, after one year of inactivity the bank will close your account. However, for big balances, they will send you notice and informed you about the inactivity. I am not sure with other bank policies anyway. At least you were able to activate and withdraw your money.

The only problem I had one time was with some type of fee. I had all the minimum requirements and still, I kept getting a fee. When I went to the bank to sort it all out, they told me that they made a mistake and gave me back the 40 something dollars they took from me. However, the next month the bank did the same thing, so I ended up cancelling my checking account and opened a new bank account with anther bank.

Hi friend. I'm so glad that you were able to renew your bank account. It's not a sad news at all! :) Well, so far, I haven't experienced such situation. I've just applied for a bank account last October 2012 and my account is still active. Thanks for sharing your experience, friend.

Hi, When my entire family lived in Manila, we let some family friends use my sister's bank account for them to send money in the province. She didn't have personal money in that account and we were only using it for sending purposes when me and my mother was left in the province. When we also moved to Manila, the account was closed due to inactivity, then one friend sent a money to a relative without informing us. He sent 2000 pesos but his relatives wasn't able to claim it because the account was not active anymore. My sister had to go the bank but wasn't able to activate it because she forgot the correct signature that she used on that account.

Good thing that you still got somethingfrom your money even half... In the philippines the bank calls it as "dormant account". Dormant Account means that i t has not been moved for two years. Because sometimes the bank eats up your money. Imagine the bank Have used it and still get bank fees as charges for being inactive. Such ridiculous...sometimes, a person will have second thoughts whether to put the money in the bank or just have it in kept in the cabinet. They are such greedy....
