Tomorrow is January 10 and we are expecting the biggest storm of the season. We have been told to prepare for at least 40 and perhaps as much as 70 cm of snow and winds that could reach more than 100 km an hour. It is expected to hit in the afternoon and continue overnight and into Friday. People have been preparing by buying flashlights and candles in case we lose power, also extra blankets etc. warmer weather is expected on Saturday and there is the likelihood of rain, which will make for some very messy driving. I have plenty of food, extra blankets, a flashlight and candles,so I'm expecting to be okay. Hopefully we won't see too many accidents. What kind of weather do you have in your area?

We're suppose to have nice weather until next Monday and then it gets really cold again. I'm going to miss the 40s we've been having even though that sounds silly, lol! It's sure better than the 20s and 30s. I still can't wait until spring so I can open the windows and hear the birds singing.

Sorry, what an idiot I am...here you are waiting for this horrible storm and I'm talking about regular winter weather. I hope all goes well for you and don't forget to have batteries for your radio in case your electricity goes off. Maybe, hopefully, it won't be so bad as they say.

Hi kashmeremycat, Thank you for responding and what you were saying is fine. I did have batteries but while thousands of people lost electricity, we were one of the fortunate ones who didn't. It was rough for a while but things are back to normal now. As you might guess, I can't wait for spring either. Blessings.

That is what I hate, the fear of something coming, you know it's going to come and it's all the build up, expectation and worry. Fortunately we haven't had any storms of your magnitude apart from back in 1987 but the weather forecast said there weren't going to be any storms, how wrong were they and we didn't have time to prepare. The major problem we have in our country is flooding, we have had so much rainful, 2012 was the second on record for the largest rainfall in one year! So far we have escaped the snow, I hope it stays that way, because when it snows it seems to ground everything to a halt.

Hi sid, Thank you for your response, but I don't think you would have enjoyed this storm. I live in Canada and this was the worst we've had in years. Thousands lost power but we were one of the fortunate ones who didn't. Things are fine again now but I hope there are no more storms like this one. Blessings.

I also live in New England but maybe I'm more southwest than you - Western Mass. It's been in the 40's here. Not really like a New England winter. They're predicting rain on Friday but mid 40's temp and mid 50's on Saturday. Maybe our heatwave will travel your way.

It is good that people are getting prepared for this storm. I keep those things handy all the time as one never knows what can happen. They say we have a storm moving in tonight and we will get some snow. Then a cold front will be following the first storm. Winter is here :)

Hi cher, Thank you for commenting and you are right, this is Canada. Thankfully even though the storm was as bad as fore casted, it seems that everyone was prepared. A lot of people lost power, some for up to 48 hours but we were fortune that way. Blessings.

I live in central Illinois and we have so far had a very mild winter. I know it can't last too long but last year we had the most mild winter ever with temps in the 60's in febuary! I am glad that you are prepared. If we were to get hit I would be screwed, lol. Stay warm and safe.

Hi savypat Thank you for responding and I know I'm late getting back here.We are having a rough winter, or maybe it's just that we have been spoiled by the milder winters we've been getting in recent years. The storm was a bad one but everyone seems to have been prepared. It is milder now but we are getting winds of more than 100 km an hour - gusts to 140 in places but it supposed to diminish overnight. I see that you are having snow too, so be safe. Blessings.

Warm...very warm...30 degrees in daytime, 20 in the night..
We dont have storms...but the climate is becoming increasingly unbearable...hot ..partly due to the number of buildings coming up all around...leaving little room for air circulation, and partly because of global warming, if that is true that is.
Hope you have enough warm clothes and torches...will be waiting for a post from you on Saturday and Sunday..take care...

Good day to you Pose123,
With reference to your topic, well, it is really better to be prepare in any event that might happen. And with the preparations that you are doing, I guess, it is all enough. And hoping that everything will be under control.

That's some nasty weather you're expecting. Storms like that scare me. It gives me a feeling of being trapped. Good that you're ready for it. Weather like that makes it almost impossible to drive in and it's not safe to even walk a short distance. Good luck, stay warm and I'll be watching the weather to see how your storm develops. As for my area - Western Mass., it's been unseasonably warm, in the 40's F. Supposed to go up to the mid 50's on Saturday. Unusual weather for this time of year for us.

It's supposed to be fairly warm here (high 40s F) but possibly snow tomorrow night and the next day. I'm hoping it does because we haven't had much snow at all this year.
I'm not sure I'd want as big a storm as you're expecting, though! We haven't had a good storm here in a long time, but we used to get some really good blizzards. Many people here used to keep candles, food, blankets and so on, on hand all the time, just in case, but not any more.

Oh that means it is going to rise the cold in your region. I just hope you be safe. Well my region is pathetically changing. We live in a region where there are never any earth quakes, very less murders and rape. No storms, no heavy rains, no winters at all. Pathetically harsh sun rays. I hate it, because being in sun all the time is like burning like a chicken. Here winters are in such a way, like today it will be colder and tomorrow it will be terrifically hot. This type of season makes you fall sick. Like i am right now. I really am not happy living where i live, i never feel excited when winters arrive, because i never seen a proper winter in my life, all we see is the facking harsh rays of the sun

Sorry to learn about that coming storm, please take care. I'ts already January 10 here in our country (Philippines) and in the place where we live we have a fine weather the whole day but I heard in the news that there are heavy rains in some parts of our country. Fact is, barely after new year there had been some flooding in some provinces and this is the worst calamity that my family are afraid of for we had experienced one of the worst floods that happened in our country more than three years ago and it was a nightmare.

Yes, you should really prepare well for that coming storm my friend. It's best that we always expect for the worst so we could really be ready for it.
Keep safe my friend. Us, here, it has been raining since Monday. There's a low pressure area , so it's mostly rainy.

I have never seen snow in my whole life since I am from the Philippines. Our storm is rain and wind that cause flood and land slides. When the wind is strong, it blows away roof tops and even electric cables. It,s really dangerous when these storms come strong and takes long.

Please do extra precautionary measures. Philippines is also a favorite route of typhoons so we are into disaster preparedness planning week after week. Life is the priority in case calamities like these occurs.
