I am a HUGE reader! I gave up or lost most of my library during the last ten years, and I'm lacking a library card. We haven't had money to purchase books, other than an occasional book from the thrift store. As you can imagine, I'm going nuts, rereading the same books over and over again.
I read this blog-one hundred dollars a month. It is by a woman named Mavis, who feeds her family on $100 a month. She also decided to grow a ton of food last year. She sends emails every day, and there's usually four or five free book titles from Kindle.
I don't have a Kindle; I'm more of a purist and love books. But I learned the other day that I can download the Kindle reader for the iPhone! I just couldn't figure out how to make it work. I finally clicked on one of the links-it brought me to the purchase page, but I was afraid it wasn't free. I did it anyway-and it said that it would be downloaded to my phone the next time I logged on. Still wasn't sure, but tonight, I decided to plug my phone into the computer and guess what? They downloaded!
Now I just went through today's free Kindle downloads list and I think I selected over 20 titles. Some of them are back issues of some magazines, while other titles looked interesting. It'll be hard to learn to read on my phone, but until I can afford a Kindle of my own, this is the next best thing! And guess what?
The list is updated every day!!!
Now I'm off to finish downloading so I can sign off and get to reading!

This Kindle free download thing sounds great. I used to read alot but had to give up due to my lack of concentration, eyes, etc. Glad you are able to download the Kindle to your Iphone. I will keep that in mind if I ever get a cell phone.

It's great because I'm such a huge reader; this way, I can save so much money by NOT buying books! I wear reading glasses now, in addition to my contacts since my eyes don't see details that well any more.
I just downloaded more-I already finished my first book and I'm well into my second one. Eventually, I'll upgrade to a full-size Kindle-this screen is REALLY pushing it!

Are the drops prescription, or just over the counter? Film over your eyes sounds pretty serious. I have eye allergies and as a result, I can't really wear eye makeup long before I start rubbing it off. I'm asking around about which version is the best Kindle-I need one with a good background light because I don't see well in dim light any more.

I need reading glasses too. It just gets so frustrating because when I try to focus and read something I get film over my eyes and its hard to see clearly. In the Summertime I sometimes can't drive or handle appliances or anything because the film over my eyes gets so bad. The doctor said to just use eye drops and that does help but still can't see plainly. I think it is allergies in the Summer but not sure in Winter. A Kindle would be great. Bigger screen than a book and lit up.

I love reading and it's always cool when they give you away free books. On the Amazon Kindle Fire they give you one free book per month which is awesome. Happy reading!

If you go to Amazon's website and look up their Top 100 Free books, you can download them for free from there too. It's updated every day because I went back today and got another 20 books! I haven't shopped for a Kindle yet; is the Fire really that good?
Enjoy reading and don't forget to check out their Top 100 Free books!

I've done a few free promos on my novel but I'm not doing one right now, however if you look in discussions under "Meet the Author" at Amazon, free promos are always being listed.

Thanks-I didn't realize that part of Amazon exists! What's the subject and title of your novel?

I'm with you, Scorpibabes! I bought my Kindle last year and have loved it ever since. I actually think most of the stuff I have on my Kindle are the free books and short stories instead of ones I've paid for.
The only two I can think of I have that I paid for are IT by Stephen King and the first Animorphs book.
I downloaded a book not too long ago called Scary Mary, which was free. It kind of reminded me of Dean Koontz' Odd Thomas books (which I plan on buying eventually), but whereas Odd Thomas can see spirits but not verbally communicate with them, Mary can talk to and hear ghosts but not see them.

I read It in paperback some time back; it was so LONG! I don't think that I'll download a book that long to my phone-it's a much smaller screen than a Kindle! I've never heard of Koontz's Odd Thomas series.

Does Mavis email you the free kindle books? I am like you and prefer real books, but my father in law bought me a kindle for Christmas last year. I had a bunch of books on my list so he thought a kindle and gift certifcate would be a great gift. It was very sweet. I would love to get a list of the free books to check out.

Mavis doesn't email me the books; she has a daily blog and she posts 4 to 5 days a day. If you go to Amazon's website, there should be a list of free classic books.

My friend has recently bought a kindle for himself which is why i have an opportunity to take a clsoer look. let me tell you that i'm really falling in love with this amazon's invention, and i am willing to buy a new one for me. normally i take several books with me while traveling but once i bought kindle i don't need any of those books. it has a beautiful faint light on its screen that does not irritate your eyes while reading.

I haven't actually seen a real Kindle in person; currently, I'm limited to my phone. I'll always love the older books, but this will make it so much easier for someone like me that reads a LOT.

Yeah, I have Kindle and Nook downloaded for Free on my tablet, and have read some of the stuff you can find for Free. Problem is some of them are only bits of a book and make you want to order the real thing. But this is a Great way to keep up and since you can download these for Free makes it more of a convenience as well.

That is great that you can read books on your phone. I have a Kindle and it reads to me, which is great while house cleaning. I do love getting free books and have read many of them over the last year.

That is so cool-you can listen to the book while you're doing something else! What type of Kindle do you have?
The free book thing is AWESOME!!! I even downloaded more today!

I am very proud of the fact that my daughter graduated university with a bachelor's degree in English. However, she is positively miserable about any suggestion that any member of the family read books on a Kindle. I have an iPad with the kindle app and I do have a few free books on that and I recently downloaded a book by a new Swedish author that cost $.30. I have not told her that I have them! I feel like I have a stash of naughty magazines under the bed that I want to keep from Mom! LOL. She is less censorious about the fact that I occasionally download magazines to read. Apparently they are not literature!

I LOVE books-the feel of the pages, the smell of them.... I used to be a snob about e-readers, but I've got about 23 or so new books to read, plus a bunch of magazines that'll keep me occupied for a while. I'm already on the third book; guess I should shop some more!
Don't worry p1key, your secret is safe with me!!!

I downloaded the kindle and some free books on my laptop since I cannot afford to buy books either. I love it! I have read some really good books on there. I am glad I gave it a try too because I am not disappointed at all. =)

As I had said-I'm a book lover, but my hobby got too expensive without having a current library card. I read pretty much whatever is put in front of me, but now I can pick books that I want to read! I even got some back issues of a magazine that I want to check out before I consider subscribing.
I'd love to get a Kindle...or even a laptop! I love the selection of the top free books-I went back and found even more today! I better be careful-I know I've got too many pictures on my phone for iTunes to back up, so I've got to clean my phone up before it crashes!

I don't have one of these reader things yet, but they do sound interesting. I just love the feel of real books, but the cost of ereads are much cheaper then buying the real book so maybe we will relook at getting one of these.

I also have the Kindle apps on my iPad, and like you, I only buy those FREE books from Amazon! I think I have over 60 free books in my Kindle apps now. As someone who loves reading, it's like being a kid set lose in a candy shop. I love reading and I love the actual books too of course. But there are lots of situations that I am so thankful that I have 60+ books without all the bulk and weigh to lug around.
