Ordering from the Senior Menu

Ok, I'll admit it straight out. This is a sneaky attempt to bypass the "no milestone discussions" rule by announcing a milestone, and turning it into a discussion. (crossing fingers)
Ok, so tomorrow's my birthday. And at some places, that means that I will legally be able to order off of the senior menu in some restaurants.
I do not nearly feel like a senior, but it will actually be nice to be able to order something with smaller portions at a lower price. Most restaurant portions are way too big, and it is hard to stop eating when I'm full, and take the rest home.
So this is a bonus of reaching a ripe old age. When you've reached a certain age that you are not so excited about, were there are least good things that came out of it?

Happy early Birthday! You don't look that old Dawn, unless the pictures I see are old. I wonder if I qualify? If not now, I will soon..

I went to your page where it shows your age, I had always thought you were younger than I.

I think you will find that the next step grants wonder freedoms. Others expectations from you just start to fade. It's gradual but all of a sudden you look back and see that the world has let you go your own way. It's a wonderful feeling. And it gets better and better as you age, so what if you're a little off center in your thinking, you don't get excited by the newest smart phone, but you do something you always wanted to do and thought people wouldn't approve or would look down on you. You climb that mountian, water ski, take a language course, or
any other thing you wanted and let others influence your choices. Blessings and Many more Happy Birthdays

Well, HBD Dawn!
When I was really young, I wanted to become a millionaire at a certain age. We'll that age has come and gone, and I still have to see my first million.
So getting to this 'certain' age, I just had to rationalize that I'm happy because I'm still healthy (I think).

Happy birthday, Dawn !
We have menus for children in France, but not for seniors. Trains can be a bit cheaper after 60, but I am not in a hurry to reach my 60's, and not very excited by the idea of getting some discounts for seniors.
You can choose a good restaurant to celebrate your birthday without using your new rights to a senior menu as an excuse.

So far I am glad to reach just about any age, as it sure beats not reaching the age but dying instead. We are on two sides of the divide as far as the 65 Senior mark. A few places start at 55. Sometimes they think I am older than he is. Wednesday night we got a nice surprise as the IHOP where we were eating realized that seniors were bogo on that evening. Sometimes I feel younger than my label.

I knew you were not 65, I was thinking more like 50. These rules are all over the place, starting at 50.

Happy birthday, by the way. It appears I'm late, I'm sorry! I couldn't wait until I was 13 and could order from the adult menu. But not for the reason one might think. From the time I was eight until I was finally 13 no one believed I was young enough to order from the children's menu. One waitress even suggested my dad was lying. And by the way, I don't believe I've ever seen my dad have to hold in his temper more than when she did that. So we started bringing my birth certificate with us when we would go out to eat. I got tired of being upset about the smirks we would get, and the insinuations that my parents lied. I respect my parents and they have the utmost integrity. It hurt me to see someone question it.

In my experience,it just looks odd When the "kid" is as big (or bigger!) than the Parents and they'll still insist on having the kid's Menu options..and then maybe ordering another one for them when the first item doesn't fill the gap! (not boasting, but I have to say a kid's portion is quite substantial in the first place..)

I don't think 50 counts here as being a Senior discount worthy Age to Be..(Although the life insurance marketers catch on real Quick!) I Remember my Aunt and Uncle visiting in the US some years back and being delighted at Senior discounts available to them when they hadn't yet reached UK Retirement Age..

I hear of orders at breakfasttime for an egg benedict...but they don't want the sauce..or the bacon,sometimes..So,what they REALLY want is a poached egg on toast?!

The Egg Benedict/at what stage does it stop being one, is a good question.
I can't eat English muffins, they have corn meal on them - at least all the ones you can buy in the store do...
Bacon... well, I can only eat pork once a week, why would I waste it one breakfast? I consider Canadian Bacon more ham than bacon... but still...
Don't really care much for salmon, but I'd bet Hollandaise sauce could even save salmon....
darn these dumb food allergies!

I remember going into IHoP and doing that! Granted, some days I get my "go to" item there instead, the cheese blintzes, (no fruit NO powdered sugar) but I do enjoy getting the senior menu too.
At ours tho, they don't care that much and the roomie does it too and she's not that old...

2 questions about my friend "Benny"...1) At what stage of "don't want that on my order" does the thing stop being a Benedict? No sauce,No Bacon?
2) is there a preferred name for it when the bacon is substituted for Smoked Salmon?
I looked it up,and found "Eggs Atlantic",but I understand there are others..any preferences,if you enjoy that version?

My boyfriend could do so as well if we ate at places that included "senior" sections. However, that is more of a chain thing, and we are not national chain people.
It is nice, though, that he does have access to some discounts due to his age. Might as well take advantage of the ones that are useful to us.
Happy Birthday. I hope that you have a great day tomorrow.

wow... i never thought that there is this something like this there. You won't throw any left over food. That's the very practical... There should be something like this in the menu, like, if you can consume only a few spoonful of order so you don't have to order to the senior menu.

Yep..Im with you on this. I get the discounts wherever I can. I even get them at the thrift shops. I'll take my daughter in and she will give me money but have me pay so she can enjoy my discount too. The insurance rates go down. I am not a fan of this getting older stuff but I'll take any perks that come my way. I have to just add that you don't even look close to being a senior. I'd be asking for your ID. Im not joking...you really do not.

I hate to be the one to ask but you are really sixty-two or is it considered senior citizen at 55? Your profile picture you don't look your age at all whether its 55 or 62. I turned 56 in November and I'm just wondering if that is possible for me to do too. I don't look my age at all either and I guess I would have to show ID to prove it. I usually only eat half of my meal and eat the rest for lunch the next day. The portions are way to big to eat in one sitting for me.

I agree I don't look my age.
62 is when I can start collection social security (at a reduced amount). 50, 55, and 60 are various ages when companies start offering senior discounts.

Do not feel bad about your age. Just feel privilege that at that age is the time that you enjoy a lot of discounts in different establishments like restaurants, in grocery stores even in transportation and leisure activities. Just look back what you had become and what was your achievements after you reach that age.
