I think it was on Good Morning America this morning that a I heard a warning that some hackers have found a way to use Java to take over people's computers. They said to protect yourself, you should disable Java. So I did that. I don't know if it really matter or not. One curious thing is that I printed some coupons that said before printing that some Java applet or something may have to be enabled to print the coupons. I didn't do anything to enable any Java and the coupons still printed. So either it wasn't needed or it was already enabled and wasn't listed under the controls where I went to disable the Java. Makes me wonder if there are Java things hidden on my computer and whether there is still some danger.

I advise to reformat your computer. Because it might be some kind of malware that can affect the performance of your computer. Don't forget to back up your files.

That is like advising someone to plough the whole field just to get rid of one weed! Nearly all malware can be detected and removed completely by a good antivirus software. You do NOT need to reformat a machine to get rid of most malware, especially rogue Java applets!
