India

I'm an athlete, I stay in india. I love track and field coz i find it as the best sport out of all! i normally participate 400m event. But there is a problem, these officials never play fair! And in india the finish line does not have electronic devices to determind who wins the race and who doesn't, they are there only at the national level tournaments. For exaple, I recently went for a state tournament, I came 1st in the 400m but a very close distance of about 0.2 sec. I was clearly first! but just because the guy behind me was a student of one of the officials, he gets to be first! I mean, thats not fair! hundreads of people saw the race and every one (except that boy's parents) told me that i won the race! I was just wondering, does it happen worldwide or is it just india? ITS JUST NOT FAIR!!

It is a worldwide problem. And i believe it is an educational problem.. I am a swimming and sport teacher in Israel and i educate my kids to be a good sports men. It means for me and for them not only to win, or win in any cases, but to have fun at the sport try to win with full power, but don't interfere to the other athletes..

Good to know its not just a problem thats in india! now i''m making sure that whenever i run a race, i have to win with a lead rather then a small distance and you cant trust anyone in the field of sports now a days!

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well i can understand your problem very well and i know what it feels like when u have won the race but due to misjudgement u loose out the medal. This is very much common in India and if it comes to local level tournament then its better not to discuss about it. Even i have taken part in an state level tournament in Bhubaneswar and i have seen how partiality is done in front of every one. Where do u practice exactly? Do u play other running events also? What say?

Welcome to Mylot, I totally agree with you it wasn't fair, it totally stinks of favourtism, it shouldn't matter who you are related to, that shouldn't be the deciding factor of whether you won or not. What was the point of the race if the officials knew who they wanted to win!

There are a lot of athletes that want to win fair and square or not at all. Unfortunately there are a lot of people who are willing to win by cheating or being dishonest in some other way. Sad to see you the victim of someone else's dishonesty.

Oh you were really unlucky there by not coming 1st but don't worry this problem does not only happens with you only it is present everywhere according to me and same as happened to you i faced one day when it was a speech competition and my friend did really well speech but judge gave the first prize to the other guy because he was the son of a principal of college. All the people told me that my friend was a lot better then him and he should have given the first prize.
