Didn't feel comfortable having a stranger logged in my account

I have used a site stats tracker for my blogs for a few years now. I created a new blog last week and wanted to put a tracker on it as usual. I entered the code in my blog and there is an option for you on the site tracker host website to check if the tracker can already start tracking visitors. When I clicked on "Check Installation", it told me my code wasn't properly installed. I waited a few more hours to see if it would work but it still showed me the same message after the second time I checked. I contacted Support and their support staff replied that to ensure it was properly installed he would need to log in to my account. I know he is an IT staff but I still did not feel comfortable giving him my login details as it was a Blogger account and we all know Gmail and Blogger sites are connected. That GMail account is my main email account. My intuition led me again to check my page. Thank God I finally saw that it was actively tracking a few visitors. I felt glad I didn't reply immediately to the staff with my Gmail/Blogger login details. If the same thing happened to you, would you even feel comfortable giving out your login details?

Hi! I think you took the right decision by not disclosing your log in details to the staffer of the site. Had you disclosed your details there was always a possibility of getting your personal information without you knowing about it. Had I been in your place I would have probably done the same thing. I do not know much about tracking visitors on one's blog. Would you tell briefly to me. Have a nice day.

Your intuition did take you to the right course of action. Thanks for the very useful information about tracking blogs.

Yeah I was definitely scared about the security issues. That's why I held back in giving my information. Anyone in the company may take advantage of it. We just don't know what can happen to our login details with them.

I never let strangers log into anything on my computer since I don't know what they'll do on it.

If it were my sister I would be trusting and I wouldn't mind. But even if they were the support team I still consider them strangers and hard to trust.

If I were you, I also don't feel comfortable when stranger or even the person I know to login my account. It is so hard to trust anybody nowadays and I'll will not know what will happen in my account. The person can change the password and at anytime the person can see my private messages. It can be the person uses my information to do evil deeds. It's a good thing that you didn't reply immediately with your login details. This kind of stuff you have to think carefully. One wrong move and that's it. There will be no turning back.

Definitely unsafe and you can't trust anyone these days. That was my main Gmail account which was connected to my Blogger account as well so I was even more doubtful to go ahead with the Support team's help.

I would have felt the same apprehensions that you had, and I can't blame you for being cautious about it. Who knows who is listening to that call, right? We can never be too sure about stuff like this now.

Exactly. If I had given it to him, he would not be the only one to see it. I have worked in customer support before and have had access with the system that logs all customer concerns and sites. I couldn't risk it.

True. Even if it's someone whom we can supposedly trust by virtue of their profession.

I have felt the same way as well. I don't like giving out my log-in info to anyone. Even if it is IT. I am glad you checked before doing so! When I used to work at home full time, I was having an issue with the program from my company. It was my personal computer with software the company provided in order to do my job. I contacted the IT department, and they wanted me to install something that would allow them access to my computer so they could see for themselves what was going on with the program. That made me real uneasy. My computer was filled with all sorts of personal things. That led me to the decision to remove all the personal files off of my computer, until we were able to get one we would not be using for working.

I think it's ideal to have a personal computer where all your personal files are kept and a separate work computer/laptop. It's a shame I didn't get to do that before I quit the company last November. Now my files are scattered in different USB flash disc and SD Memory cards. My sister only has a laptop which she uses for work mostly. Her company also installed a program and did some kind of TeamViewer thingy on it where her company installed some programs for work use. She also didn't put her personal pics on there.
