Procrastination, and disorganization

Both rob us of peace of mind and energy and I am so guilty of both. I hope to do better this new year. One magazine says first we need to forgive ourselves for doing it. I am putting off getting ready for work now, so I gotta run. I hope you get all things done that you want to and have a great time doing it. Take charge of your life.

I am also guilty of both. And you're right - I have no peace of mind and I feel my energy being drained from me like water from a can of tuna. I do need to take charge of something, that's for sure.

I cannot believe you made me want tuna right now. Deazil, start with one thing at a time. I have a big mess I am going to have to unravel in the next month or two. I will get it done. Mavic, enjoy your sandwich. I had lasagna. . . ha ha ha. And no, I did not share it with my cats.

That's exactly how I like my tuna. Except without the pepper. I have one cat that won't eat tuna. The other two might jump you for it. I hope I can do it. I use to think I could do anything. Now I think I need some help.

I used to be very well organized but always have been a procrastinator. I wish I wasn't such a procrastinator but I sure have never changed my ways. Organization is easy if you just set your minds to it. I wish I still had a mind to set. Hehe

Maybe that is my problem, I have very little mind left. It got clobbered a few years back and I have not really re built it. I have learned a trick or two, like always put my keys in the same place or I am sunk. I clip them to my purse right now. Otherwise I always put them on a hook as I walked in the door. Now if only the rest of my life were that simple to deal with.

Hi GardenGerty, I'm guilty of procrastination too. But I know that I can't afford to do that this year. I have taken up a second job and I have to ensure that both runs smoothly. The first one requires me to be at work between 7am and 2pm. The second one is rather flexible and I do not have to report, unless there's a meeting. I'm having trouble with the second one, since it is an own-time-own-target situation. I thought of giving myself at least an hour to do paperwork for the second job each day, so that there is no backlog accumulated often towards the weekend. I would really want to take charge of my life. I hope you get things done today too! Have a nice day!

Assigning yourself an hour a day for the second job sounds like a good plan to be successful. I need a regular schedule in my job as then I believe I will do better.

I am guilty of both these days but am tryng to be better organised. I was better organiused befre surgery but still had to force myswelf to just attack the tasks and get them completed. I would feel so much better when they were done. I would prioritise tasks when I worked in the office and ws pretty good at home but oh, I just needed a big kick on the pants to get started. May wew both do better this year

I have had periods when I was better and also when I was worse. I just know that I spend a lot of wasted time looking for things when I am not organized and that time will never come back to me. Elic, hope you are good today.

This is so true. Specially everytime I see my desk at work. It seems like there's a ton of things that I have to do that my gets disorganized. I'd have spurts of really making a headway, but then I'd have times when I procrastinate. Sometimes I feel like I want to come in longer hours or on weekends to clean up my desk, but it does rob me of my time with family.

I get one flat surface cleared and someone comes along and fills it up again. Sometimes I am that someone. I think your family is first, but if they are ever busy without you you could sneak in and do it.

I'm guilty of both too. The procrastination is something I really need to work on; the disorganization stems more from forgetting where I put things. Once I get going though, watch out! I can get very anal when I create a filing system-and when I'm missing things, like file folder labels, I get super stressed out! I think that bothers me more than procrastinating.

My brain will go on automatic and put stuff in places that I forget, and I think that is part of my disorganization. I have to have places for important things and always put them in the same place. I probably have your file folder labels, put away "somewhere safe". I am sneaky that way, and we will never find them again. Until we buy some more.

Your hole punch, my scissors. I found three small pairs and four large ones in the bag I have been carrying to work with crochet in it. I just kept tossing another one in.

I used to go through that, back when I was still married to my husband. He made sure that he had plenty to eat instead of buying me furniture, and I was doomed to live out of boxes! I remember when I kept losing the single hole punch, and buying new ones-I found at least three (one still in the package) AFTER I bought the fourth one! Things here in our living room are slowly improving-Jim purchased (at my request) a 2-drawer file cabinet. Until I put it together (I got sick of waiting for him to do it!), the little file box I had been using became overfull, with papers all over the place! I'm slowly working on the table still, but there's still piles there-but I'm using them for Jim's short sale. If you think that you have my file folder labels, may I have them back please? But you can wait until I buy the actual folders! That would probably help!

Hiya GG, There you have hit the nail on the head I have made this a heavy day for me personally and it was my very intention to make it the contrary a nice quiet day and get a couple of things done and that was it. Alas other things people have not helped at all but now I am relaxing letting my fingers do the talking and you are right those two things stop us from being who we really could be. I am guilty of so many things too areĀ“nt we all? So I am letting it be, letting it all go and forgiving myself and all.xxx

I have serious issues with both and a very important matter that has gone under because of them. Then I begin to lose sleep. We are so much healthier when we manage better. It is noon now and I am resting while here at MyLot. It is the first I have been online today. I guess I need to honor myself by recognizing what I have gotten done so far today.

Hiya GG, Depends on how you start the day off most important but of course other people can put the spoke in the wheel and bang goes all your effort. I did really great yesterday as I was on my own for a while and the dog behaves better too as the ones who make him misbehave had gone out for a few hours. Not too good today as they were both here hindering everything I was trying to do so again I let it be and sidestepped them and did my own thing and it always works better for me instead of waiting for them as if I did that I would never do anything you see.xxx

I am good at time management but procrastination follows me like my shadow. I do attend to chores that I need for my survival and that's it. That which can wait will wait for eons when it sometimes becomes irredeemable like the paper clutter which needs to be sorted out, filed and so on.

I think that paper monster is getting to me a lot. I am doing better now. I got busy with a few things this morning and that feels good. Now it is time for lunch. I always think of the beginning of the year as a time to purge the filing cabinets.

Yeah I completely agree with what you are saying. I'm hoping to work on this more as well. I often do both of those things. I'm working hard to be more organized in my life in general. But in particular I'm working on keeping our home in order so that I feel better about my day and how I'm doing with my responsibilities. I have a lot to work on so I'm hoping to take things one step at a time.

It really does make you feel better when you can tell what you did in a day. I did a lot today, but cannot tell much about it. I like it when the changes are more obvious.

I'm glad to hear that you got a lot done today. I feel that I did as well. My husband didn't get home until seven this evening so that made for a long day. But the house was all in order when he got home and we all were able to spend time together before my daughter had to go to sleep.

hi dear GardenGerty, there is so much that needs to be done and calls for our attention that inevitably some things get done later and we miss out on some other things. I make sure I am never late writing birthday mail or acknowledging other special days in the lives of these who are near and dear to my heart. When it comes to housework I only have one resolution and I almost kept it all of last year with the exception of the weeks before Christmas. Never have more in the ironing basket than you can manage in two weekends. I was astonished that I could really follow through with this. Its just a false assumption that all the gadgets we have now really give us more time to do things as more and more is expected from us be it at work or at home, in less time. So I wont blame myself about not being organized at all times.

Having one goal and keeping it is awesome. I think I just need to plan to do some housework every day, and leave it at that. Actually I do that, but we have quite the jumble here and sometimes it is hard to tell that anything has been done.

If we had not had the guys monitoring our utility use of the year (water and heating) a few days ago it would sure look negatively different in here too. LOL, we were working on getting the place into sort of order for the last two weekends. Regarding ironing, I just did one round of ironing yesterday so I hope I will be able to meet that goal of mine most of the time.

now that we have our lessons from the past. It is very much evident on you as you run for work hahahaha.. great no putting of things for tomorrow. personally we are getting everything done here well and ready for the next day. I have done doing what I should do so tomorrow I can freely mylot on my freetime while I am at work. To be more organized... i write everything I thought I should do. Do them one at a time or multi task if I can to have more time to do some stuff not so essential like responding to mylot. not essential and yet still productive by earning and learning. thanks for the reminder to take charge of our life... you too take charge of your life and keep on going.

Did you have to start talking about this?? I don't procrastinate on every thing, but I hate to make phone calls and do business errands. I would rather be sick than have to make a business type of phone call and I'm not exaggerating. It's awful. I just have to make myself sit down and do it. I'm not so bad on organization but I work at that. If I didn't, I wouldn't get anything done or know where anything was.

Oh yeh, I have procrastinated quite a few times and ended up losing something I really wanted....on Ebay thinking I could get a better deal. I should know better by now...if it sounds really good, then jump on it. I'm not tooooo disorganized so I consider myself lucky on that part as I hate disorganization. I do try to take charge of my life, but sometimes it just doesn't happen the way we'd like it to. Gotta take the good with the bad, and keep on going.....

Yes these two things are something that plagues everyone and I have a harder time with organization than with procrastination. I often lose things because I am so disorganized and it can get very frustrating at times but I just can't seem to find a way to get organized. What I want to stop procrastinating on is applying for scholarships, reading, and looking for the right college for me to transfer to. I have a lot of stuff to do to get ready to move and transfer for a college so I can't let procrastination and disorganization get to me.
