So Beyonce and Jay Z get this Barbie doll for their 1 yr old's birthday and all heck breaks loose on facebook in the comments section of the post (on my wall cause I subscribe to a site that posted it). I was wondering what mylotters thought about it. Do you think this is rather much? They can do what they want with their money? Is the bigger issue is something else? I even saw a few or so people comment on the race of the doll. I just don't know. I guess they are rich enough to do what they want but it still seems over the top cause they also spend a ton more of money on the party itself, and she is only 1 yr old. Imagine what it will be like when she turns 16. I think they are great with spoiling their child but there are so many struggling out there, do they donate to charities at all? I hope they do.

I am in the middle of the road with this. On one hand it is their money and on the other I have heard now that they do at least donate some of their $$$, so perhaps they can just do as they please. I think some of the money should be saved somehow for the future, too. If they spend that much money on parties and daughter's gifts now, what else are they spending it on? It sounds like they spend a mill a year on this or that~ I hope they have enough money later on when they get old and no one wants to hear about them anymore. Plus who knows if they'll both be married still in 10+ years.

Even though I came from/come from a humble little family, they splurged on little things when I was her age. Now, it wasn't as LARGE and we aren't celebrities, but I think it's pretty common in any financial bracket for parents to reach into their pockets and splurge on their children. I think just because they are celebrities, they get more um...you-know-what about it because they're under the public eye.
I'm not shocked. As a fan of both, I knew full well they would extend their own extravagance on baby Blue. But it's their money. If they want to give their little girl a fancy doll, I say go for it. As for the race of the doll, (which I assumed was African-American, but I see in the picture it is not) I really don't see an issue. I had all kinds of different dolls right around her age. It looks like a plain old Barbie anyway, just with jewelry on her.
Meh.
I just don't have deep interest in this celeb news because I'm kinda used to it. It's the norm for THEM, not me. ;)

I don't usually have a big interest in any celebs either but once in awhile something draws attention to them.
Thats is true about them being in the public eye and getting more scrutiny over things like that, too. I shouldn't really be shocked either. In fact I'm just now settling down about it. If they wanna throw all their $$'s around then that is their problem, but for the record nothing lasts forever.
I actually wish I could have had just one Barbie doll growing up but never had one cause my mother thought they cost to much money back then, this was over 45 years ago too.

just because they are celebrities doesn't mean that they are not real people. they are like a lot of first time parents who want to spoil their children. the only difference is that they have the money to do it.

I have heard that they donate to charities.
As for their splurge... well, if they can afford it, go with it, I think, for the doll... but they should take that into consideration that the young Ivy Blue would want to play with it, and she may wreck the diamonds... if it is going to be the case, they shouldn't be angry with her, because it's just a toy. Also, I hope they won't tell her not to even touch it, because it cost a fortune. I've just seen an old local TV movie based on a wonderful piece of youth's literature, which also had a scene in it about a posh and snobbish couple who bought a really expensive French porcelain doll their daughter for Christmas, but they didn't even wanna let her touch it... if you buy something to someone, you should let them use it, that's it.
But I do find it weird that the Barbie is not dark skinned... I don't know... when I was a kid, I really wanted my first Barbie to be a brunette like me...t
About the party, it's just a waste of money, they could have spent it on more toys, if they wanted to, because I'm sure a 1-year-old wouldn't even perceive the "meaning" of a party, let alone the term of birthday or whatever...

I know the doll should be put away as an investment and not touched. That is something unquestionable. Perhaps the doll will be worth 20 times more than 80 grand in 18 years anyways so fine she will have that to latch onto when she is old enough. She is one lucky toddler though I'll say that.
I don't care about the race of the doll, really. Perhaps they didn't have it in each and every race such as black. Chinese, Jamaican and so forth so they just got the first available kind. They will probably get her more dolls and of a black race. They just wanted this one cause it might be the almighty $ worth that concerns them more than anything right now. They are smarter than some give them credit for.
I know that alot of rich people do that for their kids, not just celebs. I have heard some even pay for musicians to play at their parties. There is no law says they can't and that is the bottom line although we can still have out opinions too.

I agree with you who cares what they spend their money on. They are rich and stuck up, they will spend thousands just so others talk about them, and think they are better. You don't see the media talking about starving kids, or those living on the street.

Yes they do donate to charity, but it could be all just a publicity stunt. Getting a barbie doll for a 1 year who doesn't even know how to play.

I'm glad to know they do donate, that is one thing good about it all when you can afford to do something. They are so talented too and they work hard for their money so why not splurge on your child. That might be the only child they ever have together. I just hope she doesn't grow up spoiled rotten or something like Paris Hilton,LOL.
