Room Lord don pay my deposit rental

Is that culture that room lord does not hand back deposit? I have rented a room with friend, the landlord said, it is impossible to get back the deposit rental. The landlord always demand early payment. I have never been so stress in my life as this landlord always demand payment a month before I have occupied the room. Let say january 1, I paid $400 with deposit $400 totaled $800. In january 28 , Landlord ask again to pay $400. is that normal ?

It's normal sometimes. It depends on your arrangement and what it says in your lease. If you have a written lease, it should say when the rent is due. However, the landlord keeps your deposit as security. You don't get it back until you move out.
