If you Google about Melaka Malaysia, all you can see are the hawkers in the old town where the crowd normally is. I am living in Melaka at the moment and I love taking a walk through the river cruise. It is fun and healthier. There were many tourists and locals who took the boat ride for 45 minutes when you can actually enjoy the view more if you walk along the cruise instead of the boat. You'll be able to see more. Anyone wants to visit Melaka in future? Can you suggest any affordable and underrated places that is nice to visit at your hometown? I am planning to start backpacking in the near future. I want to avoid the crowd and enjoy the life of the locals during my visit.

It is lovely to read about Melaka in Malaysia. I wish I had been there when I visited the peninsular of Malaysia. I think that walk sounds wonderful and it is free compared to the boat ride. I visited Penang, KL, Mersing and Tioman Island. I live in England. I recommend Bradford Upon Avon and then a walk along the canal path to Avon Cliff. In Glastonbury I recommend a walk up the Tor where the views are stunning of the surrounding countryside.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well that is great to hear about Melaka and i think such underrated places needs to be publicized properly so that tourists can come in huge numbers and boost up our tourism industry. Here in my city, Bhubaneswar which is touted as City of Temples have so many beautiful and elegant temples that will mesmerize any normal person. What say?
