Now-a-days freelancing has become a buzz word. More & more people are opting for freelancing to earn some extra cash. Technical, Design, Writing or just Data entry - freelancing is ever growing.
As the reach of Internet is expanding, so is the freelancing network. People around the world are posting their projects on various freelancing websites & getting it done independently. Whereas Outsourcing refers to allocating a work to external vendors, getting it accomplished & then paying them. We don't see much difference in freelancing & outsourcing in business model - the difference is just in the level & scale of both notations.
As freelancing jobs & work is expanding, can it replace outsourcing all together?

Freelancing has expanded and growing! People now-a-days are shying away from doing the 9-5 job and having to be location and time constrained! With the ever growing innovative tools on the internet, one can work at his own wish without constant supervision and in my opinion, that is the natural state in which every body likes to work.
I think that freelancing will continue to grow. There are reasons both from Company's perspective and from Freelancer's perspective:
Why it is beneficial to a company:
The company don't have to recruit freelancers, train them, or provide fringe benefits. Next, when the project's over, the company don't have to keep freelancers busy as they are off to their next freelancing jobs.
Why it is beneficial to freelancers:
The freelancers have liberty to choose their clients, work hours, and working conditions. They enjoy freedom from office politics, commuting, and layoffs.
Having said this, the biggest issue in freelancing is the desired quality of work. If by introducing some measures, quality can be controlled, then freelancing will surely replace outsourcing in coming years.

There has been really an increase with the freelancing jobs over the past years. And I'd say that it could probably be a solution for a company who would really want to save a bit with their overhead expenses. But, I think that the only down fall of it is not having the quality that a certain company needs. Coz they could hire anybody whom they think can do the job. But sometimes, the best of these freelancers are not enough for certain companies. So there is a waste of time in accomplishing a task.
Actually, I have been part of both- as a freelancer and also as an outsourcing agent. It is really tough to get great employess/partners. I have experienced being scammed.

Yup! It is never a stable job. Plus, you do not know if the employers would really pay you after working for them.

I actually think you make a very good point here, the Internet has changed the face of pretty much everything and I don't think that out sourcing is an exception to this. I am not sure if it will replace it all together but it has certainly made an impact on it. Freelance work via the web is certainly cheaper so who knows give it time that may just be the case. :)
