Sorry if anyone thinks I am dumb for never having this happen to me before but my Gmail account just gave me issues logging into it because it said someone from Japan tried to hack into my account! I have never had this happen before so it was like what in the world? Gmail said they stopped the hacking so they could not get into my email...
How in the world do these people get your password? Are they just that good? Forgive me for my stupidity with this, as I am sure others have been through this before, but first time for me!

I don't know how or why they do it, but am glad that Gmail stopped it.

Why would anyone think you were dumb? If anything they should think you were lucky in not having had this happen before. You have to be very careful in choosing your passwords and you have to be even more careful when connecting apps to your email account. It's also a good idea to change your password periodically.

Nice to know your gmail is looking out for you! Isn't it crazy? It never ceases to amaze me how this happens all the time.
I was only hacked once but it was a goodie. Someone hacked my Ebay account when I was moving, so my computer wasn't even up and running yet. They decided to put a, get this one, JOHN DEERE tracktor up for bids on Ebay in my name and account selling for over $700.00. Would you believe that?
When I finally got my computer up and running, about a week later, I couldn't log into my Ebay account, nor my Paypal account. It took quite a while to convince them who I was because my whole Ebay account was completely shut down and I couldn't even log in or nothing.
I finally was talking to security there and thanked them all over the place, and asked how the heck they knew it wasn't me. Of course, they couldn't give away their security secrets but they said they knew and can't reveal how they do this. Needless to say, I was relieved that they shut the whole thing down before it sold, etc. and all that crap.
I wish I had secret powers to zap hackers.

They would have made between $700 and $1200 from my fake auction and since they hacked into my Ebay account which is associated with my Paypal account, once paid, they would have withdrawn the money and disappeared. All in my name. But Ebay was too smart for them. And here I am minding my own business, unpacking boxes, setting up the household, knowing nothing about what was going on. Crazy.

Go figure it is for money. I should have known that... So much evil over money! I would rather go hungry than hurt innocent people but I know not everyone feels that way...

Yes I'm glad they stopped it. It is absolutely nuts! I have no idea why people enjoy doing these things to innocent people.
Thank goodness they fixed your ebay account too! What do these people get out of doing this to others?
I guess I will never understand these types of things...

This happened to me on my facebook.
I logged into it and it told me I needed to change my password because someone had tried to log into my account from china lol.
I just changed my password and that’s been it fine. I would try not to worry, it happens all the time. Just try and make sure all personal info is deleted, or even print it out and store it in a box with a lock or a safe in your house instead.

I have several times but someone from Idia, he even tracked me on Facebook, and steal my money from Paypal. If I could afford to, I would go to india, and beat the living (*(*)())_)&&%%$ out of him. I think they sit and learn this to scr*w people, and that is their relgion and life, is all about them, and how everyone owes them something. My roomate from college from of similar decent and was the exact same way.

Oh my goodness! I don't blame you for wanting to beat the crap out of him, I would want to also if that happened to me! I don't know why people enjoy hurting others like that...

Only yesterday I logged into one of my mailing sites, and as I was about to send a mailing, someone had logged into my account and sent an email of their with their referral link, when I went to post it said you have already sent out a mailer, and I hadn't the person who had logged in when I did, had! I was so angry I deleted my account, in hindsight maybe I should have changed my password. Now I am paranoid at the best of times, but lately these problems have got me even more concerned. I have installed AV and malware programs, but even they can't stop the hackers. Seems nothing is safe online any more :0(

The hacker was probably putting in your account name & trying several guesses as to your password. Gmail noticed all the incorrect guesses & locked the account so he couldn't just keep trying until he got it right. If they hadn't he could have just sat there trying over & over again, or let a program do it for him, until he finally got lucky & hit it.

That is just so crazy to me. Forgive me for not knowing this stuff already but it all seems too easy for the people that do this. I will just keep changing my password every so often to make it more difficult.

I've been having issues with my Hotmail account.
Microsoft said someone was using my account!
I managed to get things back to normal but I guess as time passes, people will become more cluey and more and more adept at doing sneaky things they shouldn't do to other Internet users.

This has never been something that I've had happen when it comes to my email account, but it has been something that has happened before when it comes to my facebook account. When it first happened, I was trying to log onto facebook from my cell phone so I thought that it might have been something that had happened because I was trying to log in from a city that is different from where I live. However, when I got home I had an email letting me know that someone had tried to log into my account from Belgium.
I think that the reason that this happens is because there are times that we do not tend to choose a password that is secure enough.

I guess there are just some people who have nothing to do but go into other people's account and try to wreck their (online) lives. Maybe some of these people are already 'professionals' and they do earn money from it. Maybe not all their victims, but for some.
I wonder if these people still have their conscience in tact?

Yeah I don't understand how they sleep at night doing things like this to innocent people... I could never do that to someone. Sorry I would rather go hungry than hurt people for a living. Just me though...

I've had it happen a couple of times only and the second time was just a few months ago. It was my Yahoo and was alerted on my GMail. I went immediately and changed the password. While I was in the account it occurred to me to do the same thing to my other email accounts. (I have several.) You simply add your primary email address to your contacts and if someone has hacked they usually send out an email that goes to all the contacts. I change my passwords for all sites anyways every few months. The most critical are the financial sites. On those, I change the username too if it's an option.

Hi LMB,
I don't know how they do it, but I read something once that hackers can get your passwords by getting your keystrokes somehow. What I read was that if you have your cell phone, like a smart phone near your computer when you log in to sites. I don't know if this is true, but it's what I read. I try not to have my iPhone near my laptop when I am on...but I forget sometimes. My Facebook got hacked by someone in The UK. So I guess they get it somehow. I just am not sure how.

That is really crazy!!! I wonder how they pick the people they are going to screw over. So sad to me. I would not ever be able to hurt innocent people like that every day.
